Husband, Son of Federal Judge Shot at Their New Jersey Home

The husband and son of a New Jersey federal judge were shot at their home Sunday afternoon, and a massive law enforcement response is underway.

Three senior law enforcement officials tell News 4 New York that a gunman shot Judge Esther Salas's spouse and child at their North Brunswick home around 5 p.m. Sunday. Both are in very critical condition, the sources said.

Preliminary indications are that the husband answered the door and was shot multiple times; the son came running to the door and was shot as well before the gunman fled, the sources said. Judge Salas was believed to be in the basement at the time of the shooting.

Salas, a judge of the U.S. District Court for New Jersey in Newark, has been in her seat for nine years. Before that she spent five years as a magistrate judge, and nine years prior to that as a federal public defender.

Is this the beginning of attacks on the Judiciary?

but there's just TOO much coincidence here. The oligarchs are scared we're getting too close to the money. And they want it from us. All.

Any threat or attack on a federal judge or his or her family was met with the equivalent of military response. I remember when I was young someone threaten the federal judge here in Philadelphia and equivalent of the militia showed up at their house and dragged them away no one ever saw them again.

Her son is dead and her husband is critical. Fucking bastards.

She was appointed by Obama and was the daughter of Cuban and Mexican immigrants. Her father was Jewish.

"Growing up indigent, Salas recalls having to translate for her mother at the Welfare office, and later helping friends with various problems facing their lives, an activity that led to her pursuit of a career focusing on human services. Salas attended Emerson High School, where her extracurricular activities included cheerleading. After graduating high school in 1987, she attended Rutgers University, where she dormed on campus, and was active in clubs and activities. Salas graduated from Rutgers in 1991 with her Bachelor of Arts, and in 1994 from Rutgers University School of Law in Newark with a Juris Doctor. She credits her success during her education and during her later professional life to the Minority Student Program."

"In 2006, Salas was selected from a group of 99 applicants as U.S. Magistrate Judge for the District of New Jersey, becoming the first Latina in that position, in which she served for five years. On August 31, 2010, Senators Frank Lautenberg and Robert Menendez, announced they would recommend to President Barack Obama that Salas be nominated to the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey as a U.S. District Court judge. Obama nominated her on December 1, 2010, to a seat vacated by the retiring Katharine Sweeney Hayden. On June 14, 2011, the Senate confirmed Salas, making her the first Latina on the District Court of New Jersey."

This is just fucking evil. This is war. I hope they find the bastard who did this and throw him in prison for life. How dare they intimidate our judges like this!

Are the rest of the federal judiciary going to meekly wait their turn, or are they going to do something when they have the chance?

I wonder if he had any peculiar cases recently?

This whole thing is awful.

This stuff should not be able to happen in America.
