All in all a great auto racing weekend

F 1 race won by a black driver. NASCAR trucks Trump Pence 2020 truck finishes 13 laps down in 26th place. NHRA drag racing Trump 2020 Top Fuel dragster knocked out in first round by a black driver. IMSA Weathertec series Corvettes finish 1 2 in class. NASCAR top 15 for Bubba Wallace at Texas Motor Speedway. And Liberty University #24 ends up against the wall. A very good weekend in deed.

One would be a 500 mile race with electric cars, no recharging, no battery swaps allowed. Engine power would probably have to be limited to protect the drivers from themselves.

The other would be races run by fully autonomous cars with no drivers, and no remote controls but a "kill switch."

Otherwise car racing is a dead end. Internal combustion piston engines are dirty and boring, with few technological avenues left to explore. We've long been able to build cars that are too fast for humans to drive safely.

My brothers used to be fans of big motorcycles. Riding through the desert at more than 120 miles per hour on machines that could outrun anything else on the road was great fun until I started thinking it would be a crazy way to die. That sense of immortality many of us experience as teens and young adults must have been wearing off by then.
