(15,769 posts)Those are positives that other countries do not have. Plus, we typically have immigrants wanting to come here. Last 3 years maybe not as much.

(38,310 posts)The larger group comes from places that are worse than the U.S.A., often places where their very lives are at risk of violent crime, political or religious persecution, extreme poverty, etc..
The smaller group is already wealthy, but they want to live in a place where it's possible to achieve obscene levels of wealth or notoriety. For example, Elon Musk figured his odds would be better in Silicon Valley than South Africa or Canada.
Some of the nations at the top of this list have very progressive tax structures -- it's more difficult to become a politically powerful billionaire in places where tax rates for wealthy people are high and it's more difficult to abuse workers.
None of my ancestors came to the U.S.A. for the opportunity. They just didn't want to die when their homelands turned to shit.
