Organizations are trying to create barriers between players to reduce the spread of disease. Players sometimes sit in the locker room together for a while waiting for this our that coach to gather players for practices or to address the players. This setup also allows players to get extra rest before and after games and practices. This is especially helpful for players with minor injuries. It is a win/win setup.
