Anthony Fauci responded to President Trumps characterization of him as a little bit of an alarmist on the coronavirus pandemic, with the nation's top infectious diseases expert saying Monday that he prefers to think of himself as a realist.
I consider myself a realist, as opposed to an alarmist, Fauci told Maria Shriver in an Instagram Live interview Monday evening.
When asked if he would characterize his position as dealing with reality, Fauci responded, I believe so, but then again, others have different opinions.

(16,646 posts)Quite honestly, he was too reserved all spring long. He didn't really begin to grasp how bad it was until probably late February. Even in April, he wouldn't get honest about how bad it would be if we opened up too quickly. He was far too deferential to Pence, Trump, and really Brix, when he knew that they were "dead" wrong.

(32,685 posts)I think Fauci was trying to keep the peace and work around trumpence's cognitive limitations, but it only backfired because now trump is twisting Fauci's words regarding masks, opening up, etc. Playing nice with trump will backfire every time.
