Ocasio-Cortez accosted by Rep. Ted Yoho over remarks

'That kind of confrontation hasn't ever happened to me'

Tensions flared on Capitol Hill this week when a Republican lawmaker challenged Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) on issues of crime and policing in an unusual - and decidedly personal - confrontation on the Capitol steps.

Rep. Ted Yoho (R-Fla.) was coming down the steps on the east side of the Capitol on Monday, having just voted, when he approached Ocasio-Cortez, who was ascending into the building to cast a vote of her own.

In a brief but heated exchange, which was overheard by a reporter, Yoho told Ocasio-Cortez she was "disgusting" for recently suggesting that poverty and unemployment are driving a spike in crime in New York City during the coronavirus pandemic.

"You are out of your freaking mind," Yoho told her.

Ocasio-Cortez shot back, telling Yoho he was being "rude".

The two then parted ways. Ocasio-Cortez headed into the building, while Yoho, joined by Rep. Roger Williams (R-Texas), began descending toward the House office buildings. A few steps down, Yoho offered a parting thought to no one in particular.

"F------ b----," he said.

He was trying to provoke a fight. I don't care that the remarks were made outside of the House Chambers.

'He put his finger in my face': Ocasio-Cortez details 'rage' incident with House Republican

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says she never had a conversation with Rep. Ted Yoho before Monday, when the Florida Republican reportedly accosted her on the steps of the U.S. Capitol.

The freshman Democrat from New York said that Yoho, who was exiting the Capitol with Rep. Roger Williams, R-Texas, suddenly flew into a “rage.”

“I was walking up the Capitol steps to vote when Reps. Yoho and Williams came around the corner of the second flight,” Ocasio-Cortez recalled Tuesday, speaking to Yahoo News via Twitter direct messages. “When I pass other members on the steps, regardless of party, I usually nod or say hello if I’m able. Out of nowhere, Yoho comes up to me and puts his finger in my face and flies off in a rage. He started going off about shootings and bread and nonsense, calling me crazy, shameful, out of my mind, etc.

“At first I tried to talk to him, but that just made him yell over me more,” she continued. “Williams then started joining in, yelling things at me and said something about throwing urine — I don’t know what that was about. I said he was being rude and that this was unbelievable and started to walk away. He said, ‘I’M RUDE? You’re calling ME rude?!’ And I just kept walking to my vote.”

Misogynist knows that if he did that to a male colleague he'd probably be missing a finger.

Williams, who was in a position to hear the entire back-and-forth, said he wasn't paying it any mind.

"I was actually thinking, as I was walking down the stairs, I was thinking about some issues I've got in my district that need to get done," Williams said. "I don't know what their topic was. There's always a topic, isn't there?"

Another day, another liar.
