I forgot that my upstairs tv was on and just came upstairs to see
the Oranges chart of how great our testing is.
In this country, with roughly 329 million people, we have done (says he)
45.7 million tests.
Great Britain with 63.7 million citizens has done 8.05 million tests
Italy with 60.3 million people, has done 6.26 million tests
India with a population of 1 billion 327 million has done 13.79 million tests
My questions are:
What is the percentage of testing in each of the above countries?
and
How would they be stacked with the most testing being on top ?
Thanks. I am very skilled at art, but not at math. I await the results
breathlessly. 😃

(1,789 posts)You can drop the millions, just remember India is 1327 million.

(18,402 posts)Who knows if it's correct. UK is in first place; we are in fourth, behind Russia (fake data?) and Qatar

(65,040 posts)Which makes some of the OP numbers odd.
UK, per Statista, would be 12 million tests, not 8.
India looks about right, as does the US & Italy.
The UK number in the OP is suspect.
And, I agree that Russian number is fake.

(5,519 posts)I found it very odd that India was the second country after US. Especially since their population is so huge.
So I wanted to know what percentage of the populations had been tested.
India was at the bottom of the list, at 0.1%.
The WH graphic had them second on the list.
So I wondered what percentage of the various populations was.

(65,040 posts)But, instead of % they using tests per million.
If a country was at 14%, this chart would say 140,000 per million of population.
This chart is, indeed, exactly what you were looking for.
They have a LOT of very interesting stuff on Statista.

(191 posts)In India, most of the suburbs and rural areas have almost no Covid exposure and most of the cases are 6 major cities. Tests are administered on anyone who has been in contact with an existing case.
So - the ratio of tests per capita is a useless parameter. To give an example, if the epidemic was primarily in Montana, Wyoming and the Dakotas, the total number of tests would be <1% of the population even if everyone in those states was tested.
The US needs more testing done is because we have allowed the epidemic to explode and thus there are more and more "test-worthy" people. So our numbers have to be higher.

(5,519 posts)Yes its gotten away from us. Horribly.
We have to test only 12 people to get one positive.
In Australia they have to test 300.
I suppose it will be me and my dog staying inside for the foreseeable months.
