Trump's legal authority to deploy agents to U.S. cities may be limited, experts say

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-global-race-protests-law/trumps-legal-authority-to-deploy-agents-to-us-cities-may-be-limited-experts-say-idUSKCN24M2WF

(Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to send federal agents to major cities controlled by Democrats may be difficult to defend in court, some legal experts said.

Armed with a new executive order aimed at protecting U.S. monuments, federal law enforcement started cracking down last week on demonstrations against police brutality and racism in Portland, Oregon.

Some agents wore camouflage and used tear gas following more than 50 nights of protests over the May 25 death of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody.

Trump said on Monday he might deploy agents to New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Detroit, Baltimore and Oakland, California, cities controlled by “liberal Democrats.”

Pretty sure the request has to come from a legal entity, not a fucking police union. Nevilledog Jul 2020 #11

When they didn’t do anything with Contempt of Congress, legal authority became a moot point.

Trump will only be reined in when a point is thoroughly litigated. He has no conscience, no ethic except what Donald wants. If you're not willing to go all the way to the mat with this swine, he'll keep doing whatever he's doing.

Police unions are requesting them. They are pissed because of the "defund the police" movement.

The police departments are full of republican trumphumpers. There are apparently few to no basic standards for eligibility.

They need to be purged. They either support the constitution or they are gone.
