1. Detroit mayor Mike Duggan said today NO ONE has invited the feds here.
Not even Detroit Police.
Detroit has been fairly calm, but I think this may push it over the edge. https://www.clickondetroit.com/news/local/2020/07/21/officials-say-they-havent-been-contacted-about-any-plans-to-sends-dhs-officers-to-detroit/ |

Philly DA says they will charge feds with kidnapping if they try it there.

3. yes
First they came for the protesters, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not one of the protesters. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_they_came_... ![]() |

7. First they came for the Muslims entering the country & thousands of Americans showed up...
...at airports with offers of legal aid.
Somewhere far down the road George Floyd was murdered and the whole country went ballistic. And you know what? There’s been an outpouring of response at every new atrocity (including the kids in cages), but Trump’s fascists never stop. They keep on with what they are doing and add something new. We are not quiet. We are not complacent. But what else can we do? Now he’s doing this to Portland Oregon. Gods help us. But at least know this: the majority of the American people want Orange Mussolini gone from the White House and in the bowels of Hell, along with all his henchmen. And we are in the streets saying so. |

6. Every single day has been a test case. They just build and build and build, atrocity after atrocity.
Americans do fight back — in great numbers and nonviolently.
But, Trump and his band of fascists have the armies and weapons. I feel the same way now as I did in early 2017: it’s a fascist takeover. Who knew it could happen so fast? |

8. It hasn't been fast
It's been going on piecemeal for decades.

10. There's a lot of truth in what you say, msanthrope...
I got some optimism back (or at least a respite) during Obama’s administration, but he had a Sysiphian task against the Senate and other forces, and in the end “other forces” defeated Hillary...
Part of what is so stunning to me now is the realization on my part that nothing collapses this fast without some terrible rot at the core and in the support structure. I just was not prepared for that depth — you probably think I’m stupid, but there I was with my husband in early 2017, staring at the news in shock, saying what I just wrote here: I knew the overthrow of my country was possible in theory, but I never knew it could happen so fast. Amid the grief, at least my fellow citizens are not going quietly. |

12. Sorry, I'm not trying to say you're "stupid"
I was a History major with a minor in Political Science. This has all been as plain as possible for people tuned into those arenas long term.
The seeds to all our current issues trace back to the beginning of European colonialism. How it accelerated since the end of the 1960s should have given us plenty of warning. |

13. I know you're not, and apologize for saying it badly. I personally feel that way these days...
I’m 72. I lived my life doing what I thought was right, and I was active in democracy at a local level — don’t need to give a resume. But I’m a “little person,” as Leona Helmsley infamously said (you know, only little people pay taxes). Apparently a lot littler than I knew. In low moments I wonder if I and people like me made any difference at all.
And yes, I am pretty low just now. |

14. '...have the armies and the weapons..'
And if we all get pissed off enough, we can all just decide not to go back to work for a while.
In 60 days, We The People can collapse the whole damn house of cards if we want, and all we have to do, is stay home and chill with our kids =) And I think it might be time for the idea of a general strike to come back out of this nation's memory hole. |
