Tsunami warning issued for coastal Alaska.

STRONG 7.8 #earthquake along the subduction fault off Alaska's coast was measured only 10 km (6.2 mi) deep. Open water buoys are showing significant wave heights. Will monitor for possible #Tsunami.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 centered about 75 miles south of Chignik on Tuesday night prompted a tsunami warning for a large swath of coastal Alaska, from the Aleutian Islands to Kodiak Island and the western Kenai Peninsula.

According to a public message from the National Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer, the tsunami warning is in effect for the Pacific coasts from the Kennedy Entrance about 40 miles southwest of Homer to Unimak Pass, about 80 miles northeast of Unalaska, then continuing through the Aleutian Islands to Samalga Pass about 30 miles southwest of Nikolski.
