(16,071 posts)there are a few people who I have to co-exist with, but I don't trust them at all. If they are cool with what is happening in this country right now, they aren't decent human beings.

(11,725 posts)I know that conservatives and liberals can have fundamental differences on policy and the role of government, but the current state of the GOP and Trump's influence over the last several years has made this about fundamental human qualities. If you are voting for Trump, you are voting for a racist, sadistic, crooked, and completely morally bankrupt view of life and human beings. It is that simple. There isn't any wiggle room about the economy, or "religious freedom", or any of that other bullshit that the GOP tries to sell.
This is about whether we want to be a nation that respects and cares for our fellow human beings, or one where we are okay with racism, traumatizing children, corruption, and acquiescing to geopolitical rivals for personal gain.

(11,725 posts)People say that Trump is an anomaly, that he is not really "conservative"
To which I say, "He had been a Democrat at some point, and a Republican. The fact that he chose to run as a Republican says a lot about the Republican Party. The fact that he won the primary of the Republican Party, says a lot about the Republican Party. The fact that he received the votes of Republicans and endorsements from Republican leaders says a lot about the Republican Party. That he was not removed from office after being impeached says a lot about the Republican Party.
Trump would have NEVER succeeded as a Democratic candidate. Michael Bloomberg, who is not as much of a scum bag as Trump is, had NO chance as a Democratic candidate. Why? Because the Democratic Party, for all of its flaws, is fundamentally about government working WITH and FOR ALL people, but especially for using the power of government to reign in the excesses of power and protecting vulnerable people. We are not perfect by any stretch, but we can spot people who do not share our core values. We can spot people who see other people as objects to be used. We can see when money is the motivating factor or desire for power, or revenge against enemies, etc... Democratic Party members understand what it is to be a decent human being. That is why even though Joe Biden was not my favorite candidate for the Presidency, I wholeheartedly support him. He is decent. He has an ethical and moral center to him.
Trump was only able to succeed as a Republican because Republicans and conservatives have fundamentally, at their core, lost any sense of humanity.
