in Illinois, but both the governor and mayor admitted that they weren't going to arrest people (really, couldn't arrest them). They did say that police could stop people in socially undistanced situations and explain to them that they should be wearing a mask, and why.

The mayor has closed down a bunch of places where mask wearing and distancing weren't being obeyed: right away, the lakeshore and beaches, later on, when bars and restaurants started to have low-capacity outdoor dining (and later, 25% indoor dining), a lot of restaurants, bars, and other places have been shut down by the city.

Remember, though: masks are required only when social distancing of six feet or more is not possible. So it's okay if people out walking their dog with very few people around, and able to keep a distance, aren't wearing a mask—because that's the rule, at least as it was stated here.

Masks must be worn when:

Indoors in any place other than a personal residence
Outdoors where social distancing cannot be consistently maintained
In waiting lines for public transportation (including ride sharing, etc), and on such transit

And it seems to have be listened to. Now that the state has mandated masks, it should help. Unfortunately, the whole school situation is a clusterfuck. Absolutely no direction for the districts. Not even any county direction.

but delayed a day because the scheduled 2 PM press conference conflicted with the Feds surprise 2:30 conference.

So - I think it was just a coincidence.

But definitely, finally, the right thing to do.

... backed down immediately because of Republican idiots complaining about it so much.

Meanwhile, states like Alabama and Louisiana mandated masks across their states before we did.

I ordered painters tape, plastic sheeting and tarp zippers from Lowe's a few days ago. Chose the "curbside pickup" option. The problem was that the employees NEVER answered the phones after about half an hour! (Called the curbside number and their customer service number too.)

So I donned a mask and went inside. Most of the employees had their noses sticking out. When I asked about the phones, the female employee simply replied that most of them are new because former employees had quit en masse at that location recently.
