Frank Figluzzi, retired FBI, just warned the DHS agents

that there will be a legal reckoning for each of them personally for taking people off the streets without probable cause, not taking them to a federal detention center, not charging them. He told them they are outside the mandate for their jobs, and they better get their professional liability insurance paid up.

…soldiers in the Abu Ghraib trial was a travesty. Yes, they deserved it, but the "just a few bad-apples" theory allowed the Cheney/Bush regime itself to escape torture charges.

Yoo is advising DHS as I understand it. The more things change, the more they remain the same.

Getting a few DHS goons does not really solve the fascistic danger we're in.

Men who have no qualms about ripping babies from their mothers’ arms or keeping kids in cages in the most uncomfortable, unsanitary conditions imaginable have no souls. Calling on them to respect their oaths or to act honorably is useless. I suspect they enjoy the violence. I also suspect that these secret police were screened to ensure that they would not have any concern about legalities or public safety. They were chosen for maximum violence to create the conditions Trump wants for his re-election photo ops.

All likely enriching Eric Prince - but still operating under US government agencies that don’t have to exist forever. For starters Department of Homeland Security has outlived any possible usefulness. It was always dangerous - now it’s a disaster. Get rid of it. Next Customs and Border Patrol - if they have enough agents to terrorize cities and the border, they have too many agents. Reduce its size and reduce the area where they can legally operate. ICE agents specifically should all be held for crimes against humanity followed by long prison sentences.

Finally - the Patriot Act is responsible for a withering range of government overreach into American’s lives. It should be revoked and all government snooping on private citizens should be ceased until the personal rights of all our citizens can be assured.

These agents do not have the legal power of arrest. It is doubtful they have the power to even detain and even less likely they have the power to roam the streets looking to stop people they may at some future point violate some law. There is no such thing as “Future Crime.”

These SOBs have the right to protect Federal buildings and that is is. I hope the Federal judge will as such in the case brought by the Oregon Attorney General and a o II by the ACLU.

where Trump is deploying his troops. Is this just political posturing for the election?

Or is it part of a larger, even more dangerous plan to have troops in place after the election to enforce his refusal to cede the election without a literal fight? Massive crackdowns in places where he expects strong opposition to falsified claims of a Trump win.

Sure, Biden can be sworn in and Trump can be removed from the WH by US marshalls. But Trump's enablers and backers do not just think outside the box. They operate totally without a box.

Hope for the best, but be prepared for anything.
