https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-police-gun-cameras-idUSKCN24N2BLKING CITY, Calif. (Reuters) - Amid demands for more police transparency after the killing of George Floyd, U.S. police departments are experimenting with a new way of capturing potentially deadly moments: putting small cameras on their guns.
The police department in King City, California last month became the states first force to mandate cameras on all its officers handguns.
With (the) publics responses to officer-involved shootings, I really felt it was important to have that perspective of what the officer most likely can see and the best point of view to see that from is the barrel of the handgun, said Robert Masterson, King City police chief.
The cameras, about the size of a thumb, are mounted along a rail on the bottom of a firearms barrel and automatically record when the gun is drawn from the holster.

(1,109 posts)The problem is you have alot of military grade weapons in the hands of people with no military training or discipline. Plus the treat the populace like enemy combatants. And they have no accountability. And "good cops" are reluctant to report incidents because of some bullshit code of silence. If you see something say something unless you're a cop watching another cop murder someone. The whole system needs to be drastically reformed. They never learn anything. Fairly recently 2 guys with basic military weapons training in Baton Rouge and Dallas killed a bunch of them. So they paused and carefully studied the situation that caused those tragedies and came up with a thoughtful and nuanced solution, thus ensuring it would never happen again.
Oh, my bad. They doubled down and became more brutal.
