If you look at a calendar when schools reopen and kids, staff, then parents and the community get sick, they will have to quarantine for 2 weeks, go back, quarantine again, go back, etc. Without a lot of $$$ for schools, who are still broke from 2008, school districts will run out of $$$ as well as healthy staff (who is going to want to be a substitute (there already is a shortage of subs too) and there will be no school sports (which some families live for).
That brings us up to the Nov election. Staff, students, their families, friends and community are not going to be happy, healthy, financially stable voters. Even if you live in a red area, you are still going to see this happen and be affected. Surely the W House must see the timeline. What are they thinking by taking this approach?

(52,196 posts)Republicans: people should be free to blow up buildings while people are still in them!
Democrats: uh, no.
Some people: both sides are being political! Are you naive???

(51,584 posts)to continue grifting get him to see this will be really bad timing? Nov will be prime infection time if schools reopen in Sept. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to do the math with this one.

(63,221 posts)Kids go back to school and start getting sick, bring that home to their families who in turn bring that into the workplace and beyond. The virus picks up all over again. We will have a second wave coinciding with flu season.
There will be no economic recovery. There may be a short bump, but it will disappear within weeks. If there are any complicating factors such as major hurricanes that make landfall in the next few months, it will make things even worse.
I predict that the economy will only get worse, especially since the republicans are doing fuck all to assist those who have been the hardest hit by this pandemic. Things will continue to spiral out of control. They could take measures to stop the carnage but they won't because they can't stand the idea of working people getting a decent break in life.

(22,031 posts)If Trump forces schools to open in September, some of the kids will be bringing home the virus exposing their families. By early October, there will be additional spikes around the country and people will be sick with some dying in the final weeks of the political campaigns.
How is that an advantage for Trump?!
The answer is, it isn't. But Trump is incapable of strategic planning. He thinks in the shortest of time-spans, that is, the daily news cycle. He's a creature deeply influenced by 24-hour cable news. Accordingly, he cannot understand the longer-term ramifications of his actions or words.
Our educational problems far exceed the abilities of this president.

(63,221 posts)However, he is probably even more of a short-term thinker than most of his peers, since he has no attention span whatsoever.
Anyway, I predict a total shitshow by October. Both with the virus and the economy. Throw in a Cat 4 hurricane or two and we are really screwed - or he is, at least.

When they are fighting, there may be violence, which allows him to send in the troops.
Making it political keeps issues like Russians bounties off the front page.
He needs chaos to survive.

(38,187 posts)They get off on torturing people/families. They don't care. Trump truly is Orange Joffrey, a deranged, immature sicko who enjoys torturing people as a hobby. He doesn't care about the things you mention. His followers will still idolize him. Trust me. I live in a very red area of a red state. His followers still see him as the second coming.

(26,044 posts)When faced with any sort of challenge, even one that is the least partisan possible, his immediate inclination is to figure out how he can split the country over it...with, hopefully, him winding up on the majority side...or, if not the majority, the side whose voters are most likely to give him the electoral college.
