LSD Use Among American Adults Up 56% Since 2015 According To Study by University of Cincinnati Doctoral Candidate

“LSD is used primarily to escape. And given that the world’s on fire, people might be using it as a therapeutic mechanism"

A study led by a doctoral candidate in health education at the University of Cincinnati suggests LSD use in Americans is on the rise.

The study, which analyzed trends in LSD use from 2015-2018, indicates the use of the hallucinogen increased by more than 56% between those years. The study collected data from more than 168,000 Americans by way of the National Survey on Drug Use and Health.

“LSD is used primarily to escape. And given that the world’s on fire, people might be using it as a therapeutic mechanism,” UC’s Andrew Yockey told Rachel Nuwer of the Scientific American. “Now that COVID’s hit, I’d guess that use has probably tripled.”

Despite the increase in use of LSD, the numbers still pale in comparison to the data found in the late 1960s and early '70s, when 10% of high school seniors reported using the drug compared to 6% in 2019. The study found that still less than 1% of the American adult population uses acid on a regular basis.

If you are caught with a dose it's a felony (so stupid, like the article says, more research and less politics would be nice). Just make it over the counter already and move on.

I’ve always avoided this stuff, I’ve got enough anxiety as it is, and reality’s plenty weird already.

In the late ‘60s I was in group therapy with some other adolescents. A lot of real-world craziness going on back then, too. A couple of kids in the group were open about taking acid every few days, but it was apparent that they were having real difficulties coping with life. (One committed suicide a couple years later.) A personal friend who used acid paradoxically became an alcoholic, and died of heart failure as a young man.

I’m not on some “reefer madness”-type kick. Far from it. I ingested my share of street drugs back then like many kids. I only know what I saw and experienced myself. Obviously the “acid casualties” I knew were dealing with multiple issues: depression, unremitting anxiety, family stuff, etc., so who knows the extent of that weight vs. the acid.

I’ll just stick with a bit of medical cannabis. I’ve given up alcohol altogether. As one ages, there’s often a greater interest in merely paying attention, rather than being blitzed.

Same goes for hallucinogenic mushrooms but I have heard of people that used them but I never actually saw those drugs for myself.

Should be totally legal, but with a warning to people with pre-existing issues that it could be difficult for them.

The drug war is a failure and totally unnecessary. Legalize all drugs!

I want a sober guardian nearby during my trip, though.

Where can I get some?

It's a long commitment of 6-12 hours. Mushrooms are more mild and provide a shorter trip. I would advise anyone to start with mushrooms, but don't overdo those either, your first time a very small amount is all you need, like 1 small cap and 1 stem, learn what the feeling is before you go further.

No idea where you'd get these things in your town, perhaps a child or a grand child would know.

I took it 50 years ago and loved it.

At least it would break the monotony.

I was 14, never even smoked weed before, but a guy at school had some, I was curious.

He said maybe just take half a tablet, see how u feel. Saved it for a Saturday, took a half and climbed a hill behind our house to an open meadow, alone

Nothing was happening, so after 20 minutes or so took the other half, bam!

Couldn't move, holding onto a tree feeling it breathing. Took a step was lost, took a step, got lost. Everything started moving, the flow they call it, everything in the sky was moving to the right, like a river, i laid on my back and the cloud patterns turned into skeletons of everything that had ever lived on the planet, i saw the whole evolutionary history of life flow by. Pretty colors too.

Then my brain split into 3 different parts, i think it was superego that took over, pushed others like id and ego aside. No fear, battle back against the fear, i could hear them arguing, how we gonna get us home from here.

Stayed rooted in one spot, huge forces taking control to keep me aware i was just taking acid, not going crazy.

Finally after about 8 hours i managed to stumble my way back home, ready for it to be over, not so fast my young man my fractured brain was telling me, now we have to eat supper with mom.

Lying on the couch, walls and ceiling still melting, srtill flowing, a slow smear to the right. Nobody notices anthing different about me, i can maintain focus, at leat the voices have stopped, control was given back to conscious part of brain, whw, but now we're on our own.

12 hours later and still buzzing like crazy.

Yeah, it eventually stopped later, around midnught, the speed rush and thousand blazing conversations going on in my head finally subsided.

We had survived

That was some good shit, man

I'm sticking with shrooms, I'm not ingesting whatever a 12 year old cooked up in his basement. But Lord, if I could get acid from the 70's you wouldn't see me for a month!
