In a breathtaking display of shameless gaslighting, White House senior adviser Kellyanne Conway on Wednesday accused the states plagued with skyrocketing COVID-19 cases of being too hasty with reopening their economies you know, the thing President Donald Trump desperately pushed them to do for months.
Some of these states blew through our criteria, blew through our phases and they opened up some of the industries a little too quickly, like bars, Conway told reporters outside of the White House Wednesday.
The administration official argued that governors were the ones who chose to reopen their states and therefore Trump cannot be held responsible for the subsequently disastrous COVID spike consequences.

DeSantis, Kemp, Abbott, et al. You still think Trump will stand up for you when it matters?

Of COURSE Trump would throw them under the bus to divert responsibility from his disastrous failure
That was the plan all along. He didnt pass the buck to the states because he thought they could do better. He passed the buck to the states so he could blame them when it fell apart.

(25,241 posts)Trump and his minions have been trumpeting opening schools and telling us that kids aren't as susceptible to Covid-19 and recover quickly if they do contract it and won't pass it on to others.
Again - this is Trump wanting kids in schools so the parents get back to work and the unemployment numbers go down and make it look like the economy is coming back - all with the ultimate goal being - Trump looks good for the economy and his poll numbers go up and he gets re-elected.
However, when it hits the fan that kids, teachers and families come down with Covid-19 and the cases begin to climb followed by hospitalizations and deaths - Trump will somehow find ways to blame the schools, the teachers and the parents for re-opening schools and not following his Administrations non-existing recommendations for re-opening.
This is their game. This is what they have been doing and are doing now. The reason they do it is that it works for them. They are always given a pass.
Trump has had two of these briefings now and all of a sudden the MSM is saying that he is a changed man. He changed his tone.
Come on people - you weren't born yesterday. This is all a scam. A con. An act.

By now we should all be inured to the whiplash-inducing comments of President Trump, who, as my father used to say, could screw up an iron ball.
Just last week he was tweeting his support to armed anti-government activists and conservative protesters seeking an end to stay-at-home orders in three states with Democratic governors: Michigan, Virginia and Minnesota. The president also, contradicting his top health advisors, says he wants an early resumption of normal business and social activity.
Well, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, a Republican Trump backer, seemed to take the president seriously (silly man) and announced that Georgia would begin rolling back stay-at-home restrictions, just the kind of move demanded by the folks Trump encouraged to LIBERATE (the all-caps were his) other states.

(34,062 posts)The white house issued guidelines, agitated for citizens to demand that states not follow them, and is now blaming states for caving to the pressure he generated that contradicted his formal advice, so either way he can claim to have been right.
Ms. Toad
(34,062 posts)There were federal guidelines, and not a single state meet even the gating criteria for the first phase of opening, before moving into phase 2. Each gating criteria required two weeks of downward trajectories before moving to the next phase.

So while it absolutely is true that those guidelines were undermined by the orange idiot running around screaming liberate Michigan (etc.), It is also true that no state followed the federal guidelines.

OK since you said the states re-opened too soon, why aren't you all over the TV telling schools not to reopen - i only hear crickets from trump admin.

(51,550 posts)She's relying on a German study that has not been peer reviewed and whose own authors say it's findings do not apply in places like the US where the virus is out of control. Plus the study never said kids stop the virus, which they obviously do not, since they get sick and die from the virus.

(5,810 posts)so many times. He is unwilling and unable to develop a coherent strategy for anything. He makes rash decisions based on what he desperately thinks will help him. Anyone and anything that gets in his way is run over roughshod. Those that mistakenly think he will back them up if they just try to please him or go along with his whack-a-doodle schemes are deluded. Loyalty means nothing if throwing you overboard better suits him.
He has spun the narrative so well that he is a financial genius and has tried to cover the disastrous results so well, that many have been taken in by his tales. He truly has been the ultimate Snake Oil salesman. He learned his lessons about deceit and slick lies from his father and has passed along those traits to his three oldest children. If there is one ounce of Justice left in the world, all of them will be rounded up and given their day in court. Then once justice is meted out, theyll spend the rest of their miserable lives thinking about their past crimes locked in prison. I have serious doubts theyll ever have a moment of reckoning but maybe they will be stopped from inflicting their horrible influence on anyone else. Dying in prison, penniless should be tRumps fate. I know it is just me hoping for some measure of Justice for the harm he has caused but I know Im not the only one who feels that way.
