Mitt Romney Thinks Donald Trump Will Win Reelection

Mitt Romney is one of Donald Trump’s biggest Republican critics on Capitol Hill. He’s the only GOP senator who voted to convict the president for abuse of power earlier this year, and he regularly calls Trump out on policy and personal conduct.

Yet the Utah lawmaker, who was his party’s presidential standard-bearer in 2012, believes Trump is likely to win reelection this November.

Asked why he foresees that outcome, especially with most public polls showing Trump trailing badly behind presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden, Romney offered three reasons.

“There are enormous advantages to being the incumbent, number one,” Romney told HuffPost on Thursday. “Number two, I think [Trump] will tack more towards the middle in his communication than he has so far.”

“And number three, I think the voters that are most animated in opposition to the president tend not to come out to vote ― and that’s young people and the minorities. They’re active in polls, but not necessarily active at actually getting out to the polls,” the senator said.

Number 4 Mittens Romney is delusional.

COVID-19, the economy and Billy Barr's storm troopers are not going to help Hair Fuehrer no matter how moderate he trends. Not with 4 months left.

Romney is right. If the Ds and Joltin' Joe are lackadaisical, we will lose. I don't think for a moment we will, but we have to do EVERYTHING possible to stop Trump's winning. GOTV is the #1 thing that all of us can do at a microlevel.

If you are not willing to fight for every vote, you're probably not really committed.

Nowhere did I see agingdem say he/she was willing to give this election up to chance. I also didn’t see him/her suggest that they weren’t willing to fight for every vote. What I DID see was a suggestion that Dem’s relax and don’t go into panic mode. And I agree.

You can be determined and maintain a positive outlook while still not taking the election for granted. I find “worry” to be draining. I need all my energy to fight to make sure Trump is defeated. So am I going to waste energy worrying over what Mitt Romney thinks? No. Now, if all of a sudden polls started going south for Biden, then yes—I’ll allow myself some worry.

Once again, the subject matter at hand is Mitt Romney predicting Trump will win and what significance that has. My stance is “who cares what Mitt Romney thinks, let’s keep our eye on the ball”, which you keep conflating to being blasé about the 2020 election in total.

Geez, once again I’m reminded of the comment someone made on this board when everyone was having the same freak outs over Obama’s chances in 2008. (Obama himself was telling people to chill out).

The comment was about the differences between Republicans and Democrats. “Tell a Republican about a poll where their candidate does poorly and they want to kill you. Tell a Democrat the same and they will want to kill themselves.” It’s so true!

I refuse to go forward in fear, there is just too much of that right now. I choose to go forward with hope and determination.

There is no fear: the issue is that there is no complacency.

Everyone is spooked by what happened in 2016. This isn’t 2016. First of all, though Trump was so obviously a con man and liar, he seemed innocuous to many. I think a lot of people thought he’d be a figurehead and life would go on as normal. That narrative has certainly been laid bare.

Then you had the irrational anti-Hillary phenomena (which I still don’t understand).

2020 is a whole different ball game. Based on what happened in 2016, NO one is going to take 2020 for granted. That being said I won’t breathe easy until it’s over which is why I can’t waste energy worrying about some random headline like Mitt Romney predicting a Trump win. Mitt Romney, the same guy who was so sure he was going to win in 2012 that he didn’t even write a concession speech. Yeah, not going to lose much sleep over a Mitt Romney prediction.

All of us are terrified at the prospect of Trump winning re-election, I don’t think there is a person on this board who doesn’t feel this election is likely one of the most important in our lifetimes. It truly feels like a fight to save our Democracy. The stakes have never been higher.

Because of the high stakes it’s more important than ever not to get distracted by things that don’t matter, and—in my opinion—an outlier opinion of one man (Mitt Romney) falls into that category.

This election is NOT the same was 2016. Trump was untested at that time, that’s not the case now. Now he has been tested and failed miserably. I think many Americans, of all political stripes, have been shocked by an erosion in our checks and balances that we never in a million years wouldn’t have thought possible. No..this is not 2016. Do we still need to fight like hell? Yes. But that is all the more reason to pick our battles and not get side-tracked.

'Former Vice President Joe Biden is closing the gap between himself and President Donald Trump on the economy, with a new poll putting the pair at a statistical tie on the key election issue.

The latest survey from Morning Consult found that 44 percent of voters trusted Trump more on the economy, while 43 percent said the same of Biden, putting the president's lead within the poll's 2-point margin of error.

When the same poll was conducted last month, Trump had a 4-point lead over his Democratic challenger, down by half from his 8-point lead on the economy in April.' 7-23--2020, Newsweek.

That being said, Romney's conclusion may be trashed here, but Romney's 3 points are viable points.

Remember, too, that republicon voters overwhelmingly [somehow] think trump is good at the economy

[My personal opinion is that the economy, school openings, virus and virus bungles, and trump himself - will all get markedly , more dire].

He will steal it again with the help of the Senate and Putin. Trump does not want write in voting because they can't hack the paper ballots. In 2016 Putin changed votes just enough to give Trump the win.

For 2020 they are focused on destroying USPS before the election and limiting voting locations/ times/ dates. They are spending our tax dollars on fake senate hearings to put Biden in a bad light...like they did with Hillary (although they worked on the destruction of Hillary for decades). They know they cannot win fairly.

They are dismantling out rule of law, and have gutted our democracy.

It is time to head to the streets. Oh, wait...they are attempting to limit that with an undemocratic attack on our citizens.
