Federal agents sent to Baltimore will be 'prosecuted,' Mosby says

Updated: 8:26 PM EDT Jul 23, 2020

... Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby alongside Philadelphia’s District Attorney penned an op-ed in The Washington Post Thursday, denouncing President Donald Trump's threat to deploy federal agents to their cities.

... "If President Trump sends militarized federal agents to Baltimore City to attack our citizens by making illegal arrests, kidnapping people, assaulting them, or committing any other crime, they will be prosecuted by my office” ...

Gov. Larry Hogan responded to Trump on Wednesday, saying that the only thing happening in Baltimore is peaceful protests.

"I don't know what the comment was really about. We have heard no real details about anything happening in Baltimore, and I don't know what they would do if they came because we have no protests like you are seeing in Portland, Chicago, New York, places like that," Hogan said ...

that is, Hogan too 'complained' about trump+ actions in cities, was not being 'repug' but rather governor, actually chair of nat'l governors ass'n.

They dont ID themselves. They arent checking in with local authorities. Local Police are on their side and cooperating regardless of what local government says or wants. Good luck finding out who they are to prosecute them.

made daily, often by people who aren't even thinking about the consequences of their tiny actions

When the Nazis first had power in Germany, an early requirement was that the official greeting used by all government workers would be the stiff-arm salute with heil wazzizname. This meant that everywhere everybody went, the stiff-arm and the heil were constant and became ingrained

Even gently murmured dissents can matter

The principle that everyone is subject to the law matters too

But i really wish i believed this had any teeth, that I could be sure that it was anything other than performative.

I'm here in Oregon. Literally every level of government has expressed dissatisfaction with the feds coming to Portland. Last night our Police Commissioner/Mayor was out with protestors and even got to experience a tiny edge of tear gas himself.

But tonight, his officers were out and working with the feds to gas protestors yet again.
