Good stuff here, giving you a clear idea about your rights during a protest.
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: Protesters Rights
The First Amendment protects your right to assemble and express your views through protest. However, police and other government officials are allowed to place certain narrow restrictions on the exercise of speech rights. Make sure youre prepared by brushing up on your rights before heading out into the streets.

What to do if you believe your rights have been violated
When you can, write down everything you remember, including the officers badge and patrol car numbers and the agency they work for.
Get contact information for witnesses.
Take photographs of any injuries.
Once you have all of this information, you can file a written complaint with the agencys internal affairs division or civilian complaint board.

(7,715 posts)For anyone who has been "detained"/arrested or injured. For the former, they can file a writ of habeas corpus for an unlawful detention and pursue civil damages for the latter against the agency or POSSIBLY the offending agents in their individual capacities if they were acting outside the scope of authorization.
I agree this the clandestine nature of these people, with notbadges/ID etc makes it difficult, but mobile phone cameras can help document things.
However, the threat of civil money damages will make many of these "agents" think twice.
