Terrible name, btw. Stormtroopers works fine for me. Or brownshirts.
There's been talk that some (most? all? a few?) of the stormtroopers are civilian contractors. And there's also been talk that some states will arrest the unidentified stormtroopers who kidnap, detail, or "arrest" people. Can't wait to see those encounters.
If those stormtroopers who are apprehended are federal employees, do they have any sort of get out of jail free card because they were "just following orders"? When it comes time for the trials after Biden is elected, what can those ground level troops be charged with on a local, state, or federal level? Of course, the goal should be to hold the threat of jail time to keep going up the chain of command to get to Barr, Wolf, Cuccinelli, etc.
And what happens with the civilian contractors? Do they have any protections by virtue of their contracts with the federal government? And if they do, based on the wording of these contracts, how likely are those protections to stand in the face of what I hope will be a legal onslaught from the next administration?
I'm probably getting ahead or myself and getting lost in the weeds, etc., but just some random thoughts that are rambling through my mind this Friday morning.

(4,437 posts)If they have not been deputized as federal Marshalls, then they have no immunity from prosecution, they have no protection from being charged. Case law is pretty clear that government immunity does not extend to non-employees of the government.
In fact, in my state (Michigan), any citizen can make a citizens arrest if they see someone committing a felony.
If they try to kidnap someone, I think I could make a citizens arrest and arrest them.

(3,810 posts)did not think the army is loyal enough to him. If that isnt the textbook definition of Brownshirts then nothing is. And a reminder, things didnt end well for the brownshirts. See Night of the long knives. If legitimate law enforcement or the military have to carry the long knives then so be it. These lawless mercenaries must be stopped. History will judge the actions this nation takes during these fascist days. Oh, and fuck Bill Barr sideways, running.

(2,947 posts)way every one of these stormtroopers will be outed as they will have to appear at the trial. Then, sue the hell out of them in civil litigation.
