(5,148 posts)I fit the requirements to vote by mail.
I wish we had these ballot boxes.
I think it is an excellent idea.
However, you are right. This is a shithole for politics.
I am in Knoxville, at least the mayor by the grace of God is a Dem. I will send her a suggestion.
But the county mayor is an ex-wrestler who doesn't even believe in a mask mandate.

(57,073 posts)Glad you have a Dem mayor!
Ridiculous refusing to allow people to hand deliver ballots! 🤬
Knoxville is so beautiful! 😍😍😍

(17,981 posts)The main postoffice always stayed open late so straggles could. Mail them.

(5,518 posts)We have universal vote by mail on request. They have drop boxes at the early voting sites to drop them in rather than mail. I don't know if they have them on election day or not.
It is ironic when you can hold up the home of the butterfly ballot as an example of what to do right.

(10,972 posts)I prefer it because (a) I procrastinate, (b) I get a little voted sticker [this changed with the newest ballot, the sticker came with it] and (c) I don't need to worry about my ballot being lost.
I think they have them at other locations in the weeks leading up to the election as well, but I've never used this option.

(15,696 posts)Our ballots are humongous, especially during presidential & gubernatorial election years. We always have a zillion propositions, local board/District supervisor/ Candidates, too.
We get a voter guide in the mail ahead of elections, which attempts to explain everything, but at least you have time to research people & props before your ballot arrives in the mail.
The local news is really good about election info, & the Dem party mails locations of polling places & drop boxes.
It's so much easier than voting in person, which takes a long time with 5 or 6 pages & some ranked voting mixed in.

(36,383 posts)I have a big decision casting my mail in ballot: I can walk two blocks west to the post office and drop off the postage free ballot, or walk one block east and drop it in the secure drop box at City Hall and same the state the postage fee.

(25,183 posts)on Politico this morning about what a cluster this election is going to be. Hopefully, by 2024, we'll all be able to vote online securely, just like we do so very many other things.

(10,130 posts)and has been doing for a few decades? This isn't a new concept: Washington and Oregon have been doing state-wide mail elections for years, and more than half of California's ballots are mailed or dropped off Now that some eastern states are starting to dip their figurative toes into mail voting they're acting like they have to re-invent the whole process.
In my California county - with a population larger than many states - we can drop off ballots at any city hall in the county as well as selected libraries, schools and other locations. The last voters' guide had an extensive list of drop-off locations.
