Russia denies US, UK accusations of weapon test in space

MOSCOW (AP) — Russia dismissed U.S. and British claims that it tested an anti-satellite weapon in space and declared Friday that the accusations served to justify Washington's own plans to deploy weapons in orbit.

U.S. and British officials claimed Thursday that the July 15 test of an anti-satellite weapon signaled a continuing Russian effort to develop technologies that could threaten space assets of the United States and its allies.

The Russian Foreign Ministry rejected the allegations, saying in a statement that the July 15 experiment didn't threaten any other space objects and complied with the international law.

It described the claims as part of an “information campaign to discredit Russia's space activities and its peaceful initiatives aimed at preventing an arms race in space.”

simply points out yet again, another example of the Russians lying through their teeth (what few of them remain still).

Okay, if the Russians are doing this and I'm sure that our agencies thoroughly checked out the intelligence before claiming that the Russians were doing this openly, so I'm very inclined to believe this bit of news and I hope that our military (ignoring the PINO of course) take the appropriate steps to protect our space assets.

Isn't it amazing that the Russians, with only 5% of the economy of the US, is still yet spending untold $billions of dollars on things like this? What are they so scared of? What are they really trying to do and prove here? You might say that the proof is in the 'putin'.

Until putin is gone, I suspect that a relationship (an honest and fair one) will be never possible.
