https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/meet-the-press/republican-silence-what-s-happening-portland-jarring-n1234684WASHINGTON The Republican silence on whats happening in Portland is jarring: If youve followed American politics over the last 10 years, you might be surprised that Republicans are more outraged at Liz Cheney than they are federal armed agents that just tear-gassed a citys mayor.
What happened to Dont tread on me?
What happened to states rights?
What happened to freedom of speech and assembly?
Its easy to understand in our current politics why elected Republicans arent speaking out against the Department of Homeland Security forces in liberal, urban Portland. (Sen. Rand Paul is one exception.)
But if you lived through the Obama Era, this Republican silence is jarring.
And the next time theyre out of power from the White House, it will only undercut future efforts by them to decry federal overreach.

Even without the virus.

However, if the "wrong" people start acting like they have rights under the First Amendment to gather peaceably and petition the government for redress, well then, they're violent anarchists who need to be instructed on their proper place in society.
