Trump's decision to cancel one of the biggest events of his reelection campaign is fresh proof of the vexing landscape he faces in his bid for a second term.
Trump announced on Thursday that the portion of the Republican National Convention that had been scheduled for Jacksonville, Fla., would be canceled.
The president would have given his acceptance speech in the Florida city on Aug. 27 - an option he had initially wanted to exercise after being irked by social distancing requirements in the convention's original location of Charlotte, N.C.
Now, the president and his allies are arguing that the move is evidence of how seriously Trump is taking the coronavirus. Cases of COVID-19 have surged in Florida, the largest swing state in the presidential election.

(11,495 posts)taking the virus serious, it's about all those republicans that said they would not be going! Someone convinced him it would be a disaster with few people actually shown up, so he canceled it.
There is NO concern about others when it comes to trump!

(62,406 posts)I have a sneaking suspicion a lot more let it be known they wouldn't go. While they talk tough about the virus they ain't going to expose themselves like Herman Caine and Kevin Stitt (Oky governor) did in Tulsa. That would have been embarrassing to Trump.
I kind of wondered if the new trump "concern" is a way to make it look like shutting down the convention was an act of leadership when it was really a cover for Trump about to be badly embarrassed.

Risk good for our children does not work for our politicians.....
The Republicans have to go!
