Harris seen as Biden VP favorite as clock ticks

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) is seen as the favorite as Joe Biden nears a decision on his vice presidential pick.

Harris would be the first Black woman and Indian American woman to be nominated on a major party's presidential ticket, and she battled with Biden memorably on the debate stage more than a year ago.

Harris wouldn't put a new state in play. She represents California, the largest electoral prize on the map but one that is completely safe for Democrats.

Yet many see her as the least risky pick for Biden, who is under pressure to select a woman of color as his veep, and someone who would be prepared to be president on day one.

She's my preference.

Biden needs a kick-ass fighter as his VP, because this is going to get nastier and nastier. And he surely needs her experience and competence in turning this sinking Titanic around.

During the primary, she did quite poorly with black voters. When she attacked Biden on race (Which trump will use with glee), her numbers got even worse.

Like I said, I think she's smart and competent, but doesn't really 'add' to the ticket in terms of raw votes.

Biden has 4 very capable women of color to choose from.

He will have a place in his admin for each one, & his VP will be his closest confidante & our 2024 Democratic candidate.

There is not one on that short list who is without superior creds. He's a lucky man to have such a respected & professionally skilled group to choose from.

And it is America's good fortune to have the wisdom of the years & the foresight & love of country we find with Joe Biden.

I can't wait till the Aug Democratic Convention to know the promising team he'll give us.

I have absolute faith in his intentions for the future of our country.

She comes with all the creds necessary to fulfill the VP position & the torch will be passed to her 2024 Presidency.

Imagine a West Coaster for President in 2024.
She would not only break the NE tradition, but a 1st woman President & one of color.
About time.

Looking forward to VP Harris.

I like her a lot. Some on the left attack her law and order past, but I see that as an advantage. Most Americans, no matter their race, want law and order. But want it fairly and not so incredibly biased against people of color as it is now.

I’ve wanted this pairing for over a year. They will win Florida. Win Florida we win it.

...........is if the extensive vetting process turns up something negative. If their team doesn't find anything, then it isn't there to be found. I trust Joe and his team to make the right choice, and I have said for a long time that Kamala Harris looks like the wisest of all possible choices.

About the only other person I could see as maybe a more strategic play would be either Beto or Julian Castro (simply to put Texas truly into play), but that would require Joe to go back on his promise to pick a woman.

I think it would be a highly unfortunate choice.

But that's just my opinion, and it's not as if my vote will go for anyone else in the presidential election in November. Still, I think he has SO many other, brighter choices who would do a better job AND be far more loyal to him once in office.

And who do not hold a knife in that hand patting Biden's back (Al Franken could elaborate better than I could, and Franni will let you have it with both barrels if you ask her).

Rice in particular comes to mind, and even Klobuchar. Even though she took herself out of the running, that doesn't mean Biden is forbidden from asking her to get back in it.

for a drink later. They take their stances for their constituents or to further their own campaign. It's understood if both are in the same party. That was vividly demonstrated how all the candidates coalesced behind Biden suddenly after Biden's decisive wins starting in South Carolina.

With repugs though it's a different story. I like Rice also as well as Demings, Bottoms or Abrams. I'm ok with any of them. They'd all do a good job.

With Al Franken, it wasn't an opposing position. It was trashing him for a scam invented by Roger Stone, who was probably as surprised as anyone that 33 Democratic Senators actually fell for his ruse. Eight of the 33 later apologized to Al in private (Harris and Warren were NOT among them), and none of them had the guts to do so publicly. At the time, Al was being mentioned (not seriously in his mind, but enough to make others with ambitions nervous, apparently) as a possible presidential nominee. This was one nasty, cynical way to eliminate him as a rival in the primaries.

I don't want to see any of the Senators involved anywhere near the oval office, either as a present or future occupant. Those tactics are too close to Republican tactics for my comfort. This doesn't even begin to get into the record of Harris going after dubious prosecutions in California just to bolster the number of kill notches on her belt. Sure I want someone who is tough, but only if I am sure they will be tough on Republicans, and not just anybody who's convenient.

Senators take an oath to protect the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Putin is a foreign enemy. Moscow Mitch is a domestic enemy. Al Franken was and is not our enemy, not even if it was convenient to knock him off in light of future presidential ambitions, which Al actually didn't seriously harbor to begin with (Gillibrand's posturing notwithstanding).

I think Harris is the worst among the speculated names. Basically I've been hoping for 2+ years to keep her off the ticket.

She simply won't appeal to swing voters, and that is putting it mildly. I know how that barking prosecutorial type comes across in that setting. Her Kavanaugh questioning should have been an instant disqualifer. A man can get away with a style like that but if we ever had to run Kamala Harris atop the ticket it would be instantly stunning how the misogynistic world would spit her out without a second thought. It would be Hillary condensed.

Obviously I'll try to rationalize it if Harris is the choice. I don't see any great harm as vice president. The battles with Trump would be fun. But the comparison to others on the list would leave me in absolute disbelief that Joe Biden could ever think Kamala Harris should be within the top handful, let alone absolute top. I have begun posting on Reddit political forums recently and many of the most respected posters in the Biden and liberal/Democratic subreddits have been saying the same thing. One guy matter of factly posts that Harris is the worst choice.

IMO, it should be Rice then Bass. In 2020 you are supposed to throw away all fear and pick Susan Rice. That crap about Benghazi and her son would be overwhelmed by her sheer talent level.

Rice is a known quantity. Cool under pressure. Very sharp. Harrris is a Senator, and we need her there when we toss Moscow Mitch out of the Majority Leader spot.

Otherwise she should take one for the team, and refuse to leave the senate. If we can't beat Moscow Mitch, a President Biden is going to face a senate that will allow nothing to pass, just like they did to Obama.
