Do you support a shutdown?

By shutdown, I mean a stay at home order with only essential businesses open and essential travel allowed.

I think at least some states should. And small businesses should get help during a shutdown.

Edited to make clearer since some states never fully shut down.

This close to the election there won’t be another shutdown. It would be devastating economically and it would signal defeat.

If there was a shutdown some serious planning and considerations would be needed. Basically everyone and all businesses would have to be kept afloat. There are a lot of people in serious trouble already and a big factor is having kids under age to be left alone. So many small businesses are already gone the ones remaining would have to be completely protected. That includes many factors for people as well as businesses including housing and real estate.

We already have so many people brainwashed into not knowing that they are being told not to do what they are told. That’s the best summary I can come up with.

A national shutdown is not going to happen now, even if it’s needed. If we’d had a national shutdown in the first place, followed by testing and contact tracing, we wouldn’t be in this mess. Our piecemeal approach just leads to people traveling to open states to spread covid further.

But the longer we put off a national shutdown, the more people will die.

We are so screwed.

They need to have economic and health systems in place and going 100%. No more wasted time and money. Guarantee everyone has a job to return to, freeze rents/mortgages and wages, pay people who must go to work more, pay everyone who needs money to live on a weekly wage, have tons of schools rebuilt/modified, have internet in place for distance learning everywhere, have hospitals and schools fully stocked with equipment and supplies paid for by the Fed Govt, manufacture more tests and labs, manufacture more masks, PPE, etc., get the strict health guidelines agreed to and followed up/enforced, Fed Govt's supplies, spending and loans need oversight/watchdogs, have free health care and testing for everyone related to Covid, get the tests back within 24 hours, do real tracing, stick to the guidelines and NO reopening without adhering to them (punishment/fines if they do), etc.

Basically, do the stuff every other country that has successfully controlled Covid and reopened has done.

However, none of this will happen as long as we have the same GOP, POTUS and anti-maskers making this a political issue instead of a health issue it will not happen until we have a new POTUS and Senate and the anti-maskers themselves get sick.

***To pay for this tax the rich on the same scale they were taxed in 1960. Make it retoactive to 2016.

mask mandate to start and if that doesn’t work then a shutdown. But it should to be combined with a lot of testing and contact tracing capability. And hotel rooms to quarantine infected people instead of having them stay with those they live with.

We essentially sacrificed for nothing from March through May. Any gain we made against the virus is gone because people "needed" their hair done, a visit to the gym, a wild night in a bar, etc.

We need to shut down - but if we handle reopening the same way we did before, it will be another wasted sacrifice.

It just amazes me how selfish people are in this country and how impervious they are to reason and scientific facts. We could have been like many countries in Europe or Asia who are now able to get on with it because they did what was necessary to curb the spread of the virus.

But no, we are "special" and "independent". We aren't letting anyone tell US what to do.

And now we are in a mess all over again.

Why should Massachusetts be penalized for the idiocy of the governors of Texas, Georgia or Florida?

And even in Texas, responsible workplaces that do not require contact with the general public, and enforce strict guidelines, shouldn't be made to suffer just because Greg Abbott wants to curry favor with rednecks that like to roam bars armed and maskless.

The infections rates are to high, and the testing is too low. The virus will make that happen anyway if they keep ignoring it. Just look at where its been successfully gotten under control in other countries. We haven't done that here at all. No leadership here at all is costing all of us now. trump is using it for political purposes to create chaos , and to create conflict with so he can claim martial law with it.

Shut Down in itself isn't going to do anything in the long run if nothing else is done.

Except for agricultural & grocery store workers, because I need food. They all have to work.

And Amazon, people shouldn't be out shopping in person, safer to do it on line. Amazon employees need to be working. How else will I be able to do my arts and crafts projects while I am bored stuck at home?

Truckers better be working to deliver to all the grocery stores and to/from Amazon.

Post Office and UPS too; they need to bring me my Amazon stuff to my house.

Gas Stations have to be open, so all the people serving me while I stay at home can get to work.

Why are people so selfish that they cant just stay at home?

We do not take care of labor in this country, and unless we do, we cannot have even more people lose jobs they will never get back. A 60-day national lockdown from mid-March to Memorial Day weekend would have worked, with masks mandatory until December. We didn't do that.

28 million Americans may be evicted within the next two weeks.
