I was not sure which forum to post in. Garmin makes and supports a lot of GPS oriented devices used in motor vehicles on roads, general aviation, by bicyclists like myself, runners, hikers and more. Around 3AM GMT on 23 July various services went down with a message "Sorry we're down for maintenance. Check back shortly." Rumors were that it was a ransomware attack. Shortly has turned into 3 days now.
I don't use my Garmin devices GPS for directions as I seldom go places I don't know the way. I manually uploaded a workout from my watch and 2 rides from my Edge computer to the Strava app. On the two rides the first has the map of my ride meaning GPS was working the second does not.
I am wondering for those people using Garmin GPS devices for navigation is the Garmin GPS network down as well.
Here's a link about it.

(11,256 posts)You just can't sync your rides and runs to Garmin Connect, or push them to Strava. I use the latter, and there's a way to manually upload the data to Strava. But the data on the device itself should (hopefully) be fine.
I've run twice since the outage started and the GPS still works great.

(35,332 posts)log my bike rides on Garmin Connect. Do you know if our rides are stored on our watch so they can be downloaded later? I did a bike ride Friday and my watch showed my distance and time but wouldn't sync with Connect. I was thinking something was wrong on my end but went to Garmin.com and found it was the whole system. They must have serious trouble.

(12,157 posts)Connect your watch via USB to your computer.
Double click the Garmin Drive to open it.
Open "Garmin" folder.
Open Activities.
This will give you a list of all your Data stored like this with the date modified to the right.

Note the name of the file(s) you want to upload to Strava.
Open Strava.com on your browser and log in.
Click the + in the upper right corner.
Select File on the far left and then Browse.
Select Garmin and find your file in the list.
I am using a MAC. I don't know if Windows will do it differently but the list Strava brings up cannot be sorted by date. That's why I suggested opening the Garmin Disc first and noting the name of the file(s) you want to upload.
BTW I just did today's ride and it shows the map so GPS is working. That's 2 out of 3 files uploaded.
