I Mailed my Minnesota Primary Election Ballot on Wednesday.

I decided to vote by mail this year, due to my age (75) and the COVID-19 pandemic. My wife and I requested our absentee ballots for both the primary and general election on the state's Secretary of State website, and we both have already voted in the August 11 primary now.

The requirement for a witness to countersign the outer ballot envelope was waived for the primary election, but you had to sign that outer envelope and supply your Minnesota Driver's licence number. All other information was already on that envelope, including address, from my voter registration information. That was on a sticker put on the ballot by the Secretary of State's office.

Fraud? I don't think so. I can't imagine that anyone but me has my Driver's License number. I had to look at my license, in fact, to write it down. If you don't have a Driver's licence, you could enter the last four digits of your social security number, instead.

For the General Election, my wife and I will witness each other's outer ballot envelope. Inside that is an unmarked envelope which contains the completed ballot. when received, mailing envelope, along with the outer envelope with the signature are discarded and the unmarked envelope goes into a container of ballots to be counted.

A third envelope is used for mailing. It contains the other envelopes and requires no postage to mail, since postage is prepaid.

There's not going to be election fraud in Minnesota. Or anywhere else that mail-in ballots are used. Safeguards are in place to prevent that. Minnesota holds fair and accurate elections. Every state should do the same. If yours does not, find out why and demand that elections are held fairly and the votes counted accurately. States run our elections. Make sure your state is doing its job.

But, please do mail your ballots in early, to make certain they get delivered on time for counting on election day.

Thanks!

It is more important than ever to apply for the November ballot early, fill it out early, and if possible return it in person to the election office or any official, secure place that is authorized to accept ballots.
