Seventh Soldier from Vanessa Guillen's Duty Station Found Dead

The investigation into Vanessa Guillen's death has not concluded, yet the seventh body of a dead soldier connected to Fort Hood (the Army base where Guillen was stationed) has been found. Pvt. Mejhor Morta, 26, was found dead on July 17, 2020, near Stillhouse Lake. The lake is roughly 15 miles from Fort Hood, Texas. At this moment, the autopsy has not been released.

Many are beginning to suspect that the deaths are connected, considering the fact that Pvt. Morta is the seventh soldier to die while stationed at Fort Hood since March of 2020. The service members were all junior enlisted (E1-E4 ranking) and near the same age at the time of their passing:

March 1: Spc. Shelby Jones, 20, was shot and killed at a club near Fort Hood.
March 5: Spc. Christopher Sawyer, 29, was found unresponsive in his on-post residence.
March 14: Spc. Freddy Delacruz Jr., 23, was among three victims found dead of gunshot wounds at an off-base apartment complex.
April 22: Spc. Vanessa Guillén, 20, was killed in her unit’s arms room.
May 18: Pfc. Brandon Rosecrans, 27 was found dead from a gunshot wound near his burning Jeep.
June 19: Pvt. Gregory Morales, 24. His skeletal remains were found off base.

Enlisted won't hang around for decades; older recruits aren't likely to be accepted or be enlisted.

I'd also be tempted to exclude the "skeletal remains" if by that they mean fairly clean bones. Takes a while to get to that state. (How long, can't know; really depends on predators, temperature, etc. Hence 'tempted' rather than anything specific.)

Barely a week after arrival I needed stitches after a fight at the Soldiers Dome. Brigade integrity is serious business in the Cav. I was a 18 year old divisional MP with 545MPCO, and we were busy at all times with everything from domestics to near riots in some barracks.

Shootings just about weekly in Killeen, fights at the reservoir, muggings and rollings at Scandals. Racially charged atmosphere in the barracks. Cheap apartments with police in the parking lot every damn night

Some of my time Ft Hood was more stressful than being in Iraq. I did learn one hell of a lot about the bad side of people there.

I was Cav in Germany but never served in the states - by design.

Sounds familiar. Young guys with disposable income and they CAN’T drive (at least the first two years I was there). Any alcohol related incident got you time at the Community Counseling Center (CCC) on Wednesday’s I think. Great for getting out of work. It was all Cav. We called it the Cav Country Club.

I did look at the city and it is a high crime area. It is still unusual this many in a short period of time.

Geez, louise.

The deaths of these soldiers are not similar. Nor are they all "suspicious" or involve soldiers of the same age. The age range is from 20 to 29. Some died of gunshots, one drowned, one died nearly a year before the body was found.

in Vanessa Guillen's murder. 20-year-old Spc. Aaron David Robinson, killed himself as investigators confronted him, according to US Army Criminal Investigation Command (CID).

https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/25/us/fort-hood-soldier-deaths-trnd/index.html

"There have been 23 deaths this year among the post's 36,500 soldiers, Fort Hood officials told CNN in a statement. According to officials, the deaths include seven off-duty accidents; seven suicides; one combat-related death; four homicides, one of which was on the base; two of natural causes; one that was undetermined pending an autopsy; and one drowning."

It's difficult to make sense of so many deaths and I think a common thread needs to be found so the perpetrators can be stopped.
