This is the game plan: he loses to Biden, he makes a deal with Pence to be pardoned and he resigns, he still has to worry about NY prosecutions but has made plans to get a deal with Putin for him and his family to live in Russia.

So we're rid of him and we have President Biden.

If that's what it takes, I'm good with that. I hate that he doesn't get his just fate but at least he's gone and we have decency restored to the Presidency.

and Putin would love nothing better than to embarrass us by having a president flee to Russia in full public view, but Trump has a strong survival instinct and I think he knows at a basic level that his life is more in jeopardy there than here. Additionally he's got decades of evidence demonstrating that he can dupe Americans out of any sort of accountability.

But since Putin would have to deal with Biden as president, offering sanctuary to Trump so he could escape prosecution in the US would make US-Russia relations even worse than they already are. Putin knows Biden isn't going to cut him any slack as it is, and is likely to impose painful sanctions in retaliation for election meddling and other malfeasance in any event. Putin gets no benefit whatsoever for sheltering Trump; what would be in it for him or Russia? He's not going to be grateful to Trump for making a mess in the U.S. since gratitude isn't in the playbook of a former KGB agent. He won't get money out of Trump, since Trump is almost certainly broke and already owes the oligarchs millions. Trump has probably been laundering money for the Russians through shell corporations and dodgy real estate deals but if he's hiding in Russia and unable to do business in the US (and no doubt with his US assets seized by prosecutors), he won't even be able to do that. Once Trump is no longer president Putin will have no use for him. So Putin has no incentive to take him in and every reason not to.
