Things are only going to get worse from here and that is my biggest fear. We no longer have a government that practices de-escalation. They are actively trying to escalate the violence and create the civil war that the 2A activist long for so they can clamp down even further and remove all vestiges of democracy.
Armed Militias Are Taking Trumps Civil War Tweets Seriously
https://www.lawfareblog.com/armed-militias-are-taking-trumps-civil-war-tweets-seriously
Over the weekend, the president sent a tweet that seemed to warn of civil war if he were to be impeached and removed from office:If the Democrats are successful in removing the President from office (which they will never be), it will cause a Civil War like fracture in this Nation from which our Country will never heal. Pastor Robert Jeffress,
Although the president was quoting Pastor Robert Jeffresss comments on Fox News, he was adopting them as his own.
It might seem tempting to dismiss this language as of a piece with President Trumps typical Twitter rhetoric. But it is worth paying particular attention to this tweetbecause among the people who read it were militia groups enthusiastic about exactly what Trump portended. And while no violence has yet resulted from the presidents tweet, it would be foolish to underestimate the power of Trumps comments to call rogue militias to action, particularly if there is an impeachment and he continues to use this rhetoric to fan the flames. In the days after his civil war tweet, he went on to use similarly incendiary language, referring to impeachment proceedings as a COUP.
Consider the Oath Keepers group, a far-right armed militia. Calling on its 24,000 Twitter followers to read the presidents whole tweet thread, the Oath Keepers account posted:Link to tweet

(4,981 posts)If they didnt listen to him last night, couldnt hear him for all their own adrenaline and gear getting in the way, well...I hope they recognize his words today. I hope they realize he was trying to help them understand the toll of just following orders.
Exactly. I think they got his message, they just don't care. When your mind is messed up and you are seeing the enemy all around you, it becomes hard to see what is right. The fog of war.
The only thing they see is the enemy. The liberal left has been demonized and dehumanized. It makes it easier to kill and maim us.
That has always been the number one thing to do when you are convincing a population to go to war. You have to dehumanize the perceived enemy.
We may just be forced to fight. The election can not get here soon enough.

(8,287 posts)but thats what I see too. We liberals are the enemy now.
We cant let them do this to us.
Our future depends on it.
We outnumber them by 2/3 so we must show up and prove it.
We must defeat this evil hatred of individualism and nativism.
We are family.
Stop arguing!

(5,640 posts)Love could solve all this. I have confronted the trumplicans and told them I love them and they just get even more angry. Not sure what their deal is, when someone hits them with peace and love, they respond like you are weak and afraid.
I am none of those things...I just believe that a peaceful resolution can be found if it is founded in love and compassion.

(7,394 posts)There are circuits in the human psyche triggered by incorrect acts. The person may supress them with all their might, but unless they are complete psychopaths, these acts will haunt them. The suppression will only make them grow larger and more life-threatening.
Nothing in their lives will ever go right again. They will never feel comfortable. They will never love cleanly. They will slowly, inexorably, be dragged down into the muck.
They may, at long last, choose to spend the rest of their lives seeking forgiveness. Or they will rot from within. It's axiomatic.
The examples are numerous, but none so well-illuminated as Hitler's extermination camps. The SS sought out the most brutal, sadistic, quasi-psychopathic soldiers to serve as guards. For a time, they would perform their assigned tasks. Somewhere between six months to a year later, they would begin to have dreams. And after that, they would begin to break down.
The true psychopaths were just as dangerous to their fellow guards and commanding officers as to the prisoners, so they didn't last long. All of the others would eventually break down. Suicide, desertion, dementia.
These 'soldiers' will eventually be identified, charged and prosecuted. During the time before this happens, they will watch a national dialogue develop that will identify them as villains. Their protests of innocence will go unheard. 'I was following orders' will not work. Stamped, marked, isolated, judged -- but the worst of it will be: they know.
They will know what they did. And if they cannot turn the corner and declare an arc to their life, it will end in darkness for them.

(5,640 posts)Thank you for stating this so clearly. That is what he was trying to tell them all. He was trying to let them know he still carried that pain. You could hear it in his voice. His only solace was putting himself on the right side of history which is what he was doing.
I can't commend him enough for his courage and honesty to lay it all out there.

(7,403 posts)Saturday night action. Note the message on the big banner.
One block behind where this photo was taken from is where this street (Farnam) crosses over the Interstate. When the protesters were in the middle of the bridge the police closed off both ends of the bridge entrapping these protesters meaning every one of them was arrested (around 75-80).
I live in the big white building in the background. It must have been about 20-30 minutes after this photo was taken I was taking trash out to our dumpster when I observed about 10 police cars with lights flashing bright. It was obvious that they had all access into and from the bridge blocked off. There were no fire/rescue present so that eliminated a traffic accident on the bridge. (I don't know Mark in Midtown).

(7,403 posts)I didn't see Omaha Steve's post until you pointed it out. But when someone shared Markinmidtown's Facebook post with an earlier picture of a peaceful march I thought I would post both here. What Trump has unleashed here can't end well for the nation. Things are wound up too tight for that. Right now we as a nation are blocked from getting back to normal by both COVID-45 and the out of control law enforcement and Trump sets the tone for both. There is no command structure for either.
