How the Republican Party opened itself up to the Trump takeover

https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/26/politics/republican-party-trump-stuart-stevens/index.html

(CNN)Washington in 2020 often beggars belief: an American President answering a deadly pandemic with ignorance, inflaming racial unrest with racism, stoking violent confrontations while his fearful party stands mute.

Merely observing those realities provokes familiar complaints. President Donald Trump and his allies insist that mainstream journalists offer "fake news" reflecting "bias" against the older, rural, conservative, Christian, White, working-class adherents of the modern GOP.

But what if the accounting comes from one of the Republican Party's most accomplished political strategists, an insider provoked by Trump to reconsider his life's work? In fact, it has.

Consider "It Was All A Lie," the forthcoming book by disillusioned Republican ad-maker Stuart Stevens. He casts Trump as not an aberration but rather the culmination of decades-long evolution within the GOP. Having advised four Republican presidential nominees and dozens of winning Senate and gubernatorial campaigns, Stevens blends diagnosis of the party's ills with confession for having fostered them.

before then we all got our information from the same place, 3 networks and newspapers.

all of us had the same facts, then we vigorously argued about what to do about them.

that all changed when right wingers split off from the information highways and started hanging out in places that had alternative facts. places like AM radio and cable news.

there is no right wing news or left wing news. there shouldnt be. when a car crashes into a building there shouldnt be two different spins on the facts depending on your party.

we should abolish fox, am hate radio, right wing media and force these mother fuckers back onto the same sources the rest of us have so we are all agreeing on the basic facts of things again and half the country isnt being fed a load of shit 24 hours a day.

CNN is guilty of this as well. I turn on Don Lemon and see a panel discussion between people from all different backgrounds telling us what THEY think of the days events. It is more pleasing to my ear, because they are saying things I agree with, but it isn’t objective “just the facts” news. Not to mention the endless looping of maybe 5 news items over the course of a day. 24 hours to fill and they just repeat the same 5 stories? I have NO idea what’s going on in the world right now. Syria? Russia? EU? Isn’t Great Britain about to break away from one of the worlds biggest political powers? Sure won’t hear about it on the tee-vee...

That's how the Republican party fell. The were hooked in because Trump spoke their language and they allowed this unguarded moment in history to show us who they really are.

not the cause.

The cause it 40 or more years of anything for power politics played by the Republican party and conservatives.
