In another time, in a different circumstance, there would perhaps be room to pity such a person. But for now, it is best for the pity to wait. There are other things to which to attend. The American public faces one great and morally urgent task above all others between now and November: to do everything in its power to remove from the presidency a self-pitying man who is shattering the nation and doesn’t even care.

2. I Wish That Were So

but his entire life has been about stealing and double dealing. Cheating people by selling them faulty good or their classic scheme. Hire someone to do work and then after the work is done say it wasn't up to par and they would refuse to pay. Businesses were lost, families thrown into financial ruin. He's also, and has always been, a racist of most incredible proportions. He'd have people killed for their race. And let's not forget the rapes, the misogyny. And now he's letting people die for his incompetent, lack of caring and incompetence all the while stealing as much from the American people as fast as he can.

He is beyond pity and redemption.

He has every benefit, schooling, and financial possibility and has squandered it.

My family is pretty dysfunctional there is no reason to feel sorry for me. It did not make me a pathological narcissist.

6. i do feel pity for him. also contempt and resentment.

he's a guy who was born into everything and has had things in his life most of us can only fantasize about.

yet he's incapable of enjoying it because he's incapable of loving or of feeling loved, he's incapable of feeling satisfied and content and appreciative of all his has, he's incapable of happiness.

there's a hole his his heart that will never be filled.

and that's pitiable.


now, the way he compensates for this, with anger and greed and attacking others and so on, well, that's contemptible and i have no sympathy for the choices he's made and the actions he's taken and the things he's said.

but i do feel sorry for him.

and as eliot noted above, i too reserve my real anger and contempt for the supposedly *not* mentally ill people who support and enable him. they're the ones who should know better and be able to do better.


i have a brother who has a laundry list of mental illnesses, so maybe i have a different perspective from most....
