Trump Humiliated And Forced To Cancel Meeting After Drug Companies Refuse To Show Up
Trump was forced to cancel a meeting with the nations five largest pharmaceutical companies after they refused to show up.
Politico reported:
Drugmakers and Trump were slated to discuss an executive order, signed Friday but not yet released, that would order health officials to release a plan linking Medicare payments for certain medicines to lower costs paid abroad. The provision, known as a most-favored-nations rule, has been lambasted by the drug industry and some patient groups that say it would curb innovation and reduce drug access.
No one is happy with Trumps executive order, but instead of coming to the White House to make their case to Trump, the drug companies think so little of Trump that they are blowing him off in a sure sign that they dont fear this president or any potential retribution from him.
Trumps power has diminished to such a degree that companies have gone from tripping over themselves to get some good publicity from one his tweets to not bothering to show up at the White House for a meeting.
There is no greater sign than a president is on his way to being voted out than when he is ignored.

(63,221 posts)Or blowing him off. As dense as he is, even he has to see the writing on the wall and he must be infuriated and deeply wounded at the same time. He is losing his power and there isn't anything he can do about it. The thing he will never realize is that it is all his own doing.
He is his own worst enemy, but he will rage at and blame everyone around him for what is going wrong in his life. Can you imagine what it would be like to live in his skin? He must be the most miserably unhappy, rage-filled person on the face of the earth! I wouldn't trade places with him for all the money in the world.

He laxks the capacity to accept that it's him that people dislike. He will project his anger on anyone and everyone else.

(22,112 posts)and numerous attempts to cry 'WOLF!', he still is pushing therapies for the CV that have been debunked (probably because the scumbag has some ownership of the drug he's pushing all of the time), is scamming campaign funds right and left (we all knew that) and of course all of this is just what we can see.
I would love Biden to push an executive order out immediately once he's in the WH to immediately post a reward of 10% of recovered/or illegally obtained federal funds diverted illegally to rump and/or rump controlled entity (business or person(s)) and charge, prosecute and execute judgment on rump with a special task force especially nominated for this purpose and any republican hindering the effort should be RICO'ed along w/ them too.
I hope he has a rage-induced stroke.
Take care and be safe!

(6,045 posts)How far in over his head Trump is!! Trump is so incredibly ignorant & grossly incompetent he writes an EO in an effort to force PRIVATE INDUSTRY to lower prices on drugs but hes been trying to take health insurance away from millions of Americans & refuses to use his powers via the Defense Production Act to organize private industry to fight the COVID-19 Pandemic...Because he doesnt want to interfere with the FREE MARKET!!
...Trump is a FOOL!

He can have his executive order tomorrow if he told Mitch to have a vote on the text.

(32,017 posts)Perhaps it would be more accurate to call the Order well-intentioned, although I hesitate to ascribe good intentions to Trump.

No...that's not how this works. At ALL. Yes, trump is an asshole. And yes, he might not get reelected. But that's beside the fact.
Donald Trump, asshole or not, ELECTED or not, is LEGALLY the Head of State of the united states of america and its executive branch, and that means that when he asks you to show up and consider a thing, you fucking well do that.
This same thing was done to obama in spirit for a lot of his presidency, AND to can bet your ass it will be tried with Biden as well. Trump rightly can fuck right off, but as long as he represents WE THE PEOPLE (even if HE doesnt take that seriously most of the time), who the hell are some random-ass drug company exec's to treat US this way?
Maybe this isnt even about trump. Maybe I'm just tired of the complete LACK OF GRATITUDE ,considering what their corporate tax rates have been for the last 40 years or so.

(70,186 posts)A White House meeting with top pharmaceutical executives that President Donald Trump promised for Tuesday is off, five industry sources familiar with discussions told POLITICO. Three said the drug-pricing discussion was canceled because the major drug lobbies, reeling from Fridays cluster of executive orders on the topic, refused to send any members.

(6,390 posts)...from the drug companies they will work on a solution, for good publicity for his campaign. Like a snake oil salesman. Then drop the issue later, since his base are all marks.
Bottom line, the execs already know he's a dead man walking and have to prepare for a Biden Presidency and possibly a Democratic Senate and House....which will move on them hard. They are circling the wagons and trying to see how much they can hold on to.

That must scare the profits off those drug companies so bad they jumped straight to ads- paid for by the National Association of Manufacturers!

Theres no good reason why this same idea cant be extended to include drugs for Medicare (and the forthcoming Public Option) recipients.

(6,801 posts)Have both house of Congress pass a bill and he signs it, but the House would pass one, and Trump's buddy Mitch would block it in the Senate.
So the drunk CEOs probably figured they don't have to sign on to an EO with him.
I bet this was a big show to dilute Barrs testimony in Congress tomorrow. Now Bill the Gestapo Man will be on full display.

(6,679 posts)A relative works for them. They have successfully shifted about 95% of their US (and worldwide) employees to work from home. Even the phone groups. The company was recently invited to provide a representative to weigh in for the White House Coronavirus team and they declined. Not only that, but also sent a company wide email that they did so, explaining why.
The primary reasons they stated were they were less affected as a company by stay at home orders. Business is actually up, and they are in hiring mode. With a work from home workforce, stay at home orders are a non issue. More than half the email dealt with corporate values of diversity and respect. While not specifically stated, it was pretty clear they have chosen to shun DJT's entire Admin.
