'Jesus was white. Did he have white privilege? Tweet by EricMetaxas, Evangelical 'thinker'

The rest of the tweet makes clear he's ridiculing the United Methodist denomination's plan to develop a teaching program about white privilege for their members.

A few years ago Metaxas attempted to co-opt Bonhoeffer for his etreme RW christianist world-view

Found info about tweet on the blog friendlyatheist at patheos

Middle eastern is a geo-political term from the west since the countries including in the term are constantly changing etc.

Jesus was born in the geographic continent of Asia

is on the African continent. And do the people in those several countries call themselves Asian or Semitic or Palestinian of Egyptian or whatever? Asian is most likely the last word heard to describe them.

Not arguing that part of the levant is on the Asian continent, just that part is on the African continent.

But they have invented Christianity much later for white people.

Jesus was a Jew. Jewish mother. Jewish father. Raised as a Jew. Lived all his life with the Jewish people. He did things to help his people, the Jewish People. He had no possible context where he associated with white people with blue eyes let alone thinking white people have any special privileges.

at least some light complected people who were associated with the Romans - or in some
other contexts (traders., travelers, etc.). None of which would have had any impact on his
beliefs as a first century Jew. It's easy to assume that ethnic groups of that time were
very isolated - but that is not supported by historical evidence.

The Methodists are aware of their racist history and the leadership tries to do what it can to raise awareness. Search on Bishop Will Willoman for context. The church will continue to be criticised as it struggles with sexual identity issues over the next couple of years. My church has be instructed to study and teach the books White Frigility and How to be Anti Racist this fall.

Jesus' race has nothing to do with this except that most American churches wouldn't welcome him in based on his 'otherness' and our own sense of privilege.
