(Reuters) - Democratic U.S. presidential candidate Joe Biden’s search for a running mate for the Nov. 3 election is drawing to a close.

Biden has vowed to choose a woman as his potential vice president. Here are the contenders likely under final consideration, according to people familiar with the process that is expected to wrap up by early August.

1. Grisham, Whitmer and Bottoms are not on Biden's list

There were trial balloons floated for each of them, but none has been mentioned as being vetted, an intensive six week process. The other six have all acknowledged they are being vetted.

Biden himself mentioned last week that he has narrowed his search to just six candidates, presumed to be the ones who are being vetted: Harris, Warren, Bass, Demings, Duckworth, and Rice.
