That's assuming there is an effective vaccine. I left out "safe," because I'd also bet trump would support giving everyone a placebo (or inadequately tested vaccine) before November just so he can say he pushed through a vaccine quicker than anyone thought possible.

(92,325 posts)a vaccination through without adequate testing for safety. Efficacy is going to be another issue though, since they may not be able to ascertain just how effective it is depending how many of the volunteers engage in activities that put them at risk.
Are they going to not wear a mask? Half of the subjects will have a placebo, and the other half will have the vaccine, and if it is determined from the testing that the vaccine is only 50% effective, that still means people should take the proper precautions, i.e. social distancing, masks, etc.
In other words, even if a vaccine is somewhat effective, it will take some time to achieve herd immunity
