So far, Trump has cost me the following due to his total refusal to deal with the pandemic:

-our usual family gatherings/dinners/ barbecues for Easter, 5 family birthdays, Memorial Day, and 4th of July;

-an average once-a-month-nothing-special get together with our kids, kids-in-law and grandkids---hot dog roasts, home-churned ice cream, etc;

-the joy of hugging and kissing my children and grand children;

-the aggravation of shopping for EVERYTHING on line;

-cancelled dental check-ups

-cancelled doctor appointments for a variety of ailments that I HOPE are only painful and not too serious;

-finally---and maybe the most stressful---is knowing that all of the above have been knowingly and arrogantly inflicted upon me and those I love by a person I will never have the pleasure of laying my hands on.

A family member who is in the hospital with chronic illness (not COVID). He's in the best hospital in the world, but is dealing day to day with all of this alone. The ripple effect of the administrations inability to deal with this pandemic is massive.

It's hard for us (as a family) to even think about the things we've lost due to this grifting fucking con artist squatting in our White House, most of our time and energy is spent on keeping the jobs we have (thankfully) while communicating with the hospital to ensure we have current status and condition of our loved one (which is also a full time job).

I don't have children or grandchildren, but the pandemic has forced me to stay home alone, and almost all communication with other people is by telephone, Zoom or email. Can't hang out with friends, safely have dinner or even a quick sandwich at a restaurant, sing with my little choral ensemble that's been part of my life for years; attend the painting, drawing and foreign language classes that have added so much to my retirement; teach community gardening classes; get dental checkups; get an x-ray for a minor injury; go shopping for something needed at the last minute; all the other ordinary things that we used to take for granted.

All of this, of course, is bearable. I am much more fortunate than many others in that I don't have to go to work; I can be safe because I can stay home, and because I'm by myself I don't have to worry about someone else in my household bringing the virus to me. So maybe I shouldn't complain at all. But still, this is bullshit. I can stay home because other people have to work; they deliver the stuff I need so I don't have to go out, and they and their families are at risk. So are the medical people who treat them. Businesses are going broke because people can't or won't go to them, and many people are still unemployed. And none of this had to happen.

And yes, it is deeply frustrating that I can't do anything to the worthless lump of crap who caused it all, other than not vote for him.

The roads in shithole Memphis are literally like off-roading. Yes, interstates, too!

I will not bore you with the gory details of all the parts of my car that have been broken, except the most recent strut that broken. I cannot drive my car.

So I spent days trying to locate a quality coilover strut set with bump stops.

I was lucky to find 1 set not spoken for, but it will not arrive until at least mid-August!

All because of the dump virus!

And when work finally comes, sadly a ton of it will be doing my part of the eviction process, which involves notifying people of various proceedings going forward. And those people will be desperate because THEY can't earn money. And desperate people have been buying LOTS of guns. And those desperate gun-toters may not have ever heard the old adage "don't shoot the messenger".

Full bladders, closed bathrooms. Strategies for peeing while out during coronavirus
Even the old reliable go-to, the gas station, has become an iffy proposition during the coronavirus era.
By Jeanette Marantos | Staff Writer
July 25, 2020 |7 AM

Remember the good old days (a few months ago), when you could leave your home for the day with a tall tumbler of coffee and a car well-stocked with water, confident in the knowledge that when your bladder came calling, you could find quick and easy relief at the nearest coffee shop, gas station or fast-food restaurant?

Because after a couple of hours, you were likely ready for another Starbucks Nitro Cold Brew anyway, right? At least that’s how it worked in my world, where regular caffeine was such a workday requirement that by the time I got home, the interior of my car was full of empty cups.

In truth, I probably owe my caffeine addiction to my bladder: I had to buy a new coffee every few hours so I could justify using a coffee shop’s public bathroom when I was working outside the office.

But the easy days of ubiquitous public restrooms are but memory, thanks to the coronavirus pandemic and the lockdowns that have shuttered the seating areas — and toilets — of many coffee shops and restaurants.

Even the old reliable go-to, the gas station, has become an iffy proposition.

My former mother in law died in April, probably of COVID but Florida refused to test her. My wife's aunt just died of COVID.

We missed an annual trip to visit family on July 4. No way to see beloved family members who live out of town.

And when I think of all the people who have died and those who will deal with health problems for the rest of their lives, and the economic crash and it's impacts, especially on young people.

Yes, I blame Trump and all the Republicans.

There will be malleable voters who will absorb the last thing they hear, such as, "It's not like he invented COVID-19." People need to be reminded of the cuts he made to disaster preparedness, throwing out the pandemic response book, and that he wrongly chose a shorter shut down vs implementing nationwide restrictions, thereby extending the pandemic. He won't listen to scientists and doctors, and cares more about his hotels reopening than he cares about grandma's life.

Jul 2020

* I haven't seen my 88 year old parents since February.
* I haven't seen my 94 year old great aunt since February
* Our family planned a 65th anniversary celebration for my parents with out extended family this summer (likely the last week-long vacation, given that my mother is getting more and more frail)
* a 4% pay cut (putting me back at my 2013 pay, except that I've gotten 2 promotions since I was hired.)
* a 50% increase in insurance premiums
* no new employee (hiring was already in process) to share the 140 hour/week load that is currently shared between my single employee and me
* exacerbation of the impossible teaching load (noted above), since I've been teaching online since March and in about 2 weeks will have to manage classes in 2 separate physical rooms - and online simultaneously (plus my normal 130 papers a week to grade)
* further exacerbation because my bar exam students would have taken their second day of the bar exam today - but it has now been delayed until early October - so I will still be reviewing sample answers, on top of the 130 papers a week for students who are taking classes from me
* in-laws mad at me because they don't take the virus seriously, so skipping the upcoming wedding shower and wedding aren't making me any friends
* additional family stress because my rules for staying safe don't match those of my spouse
* our 40th annual open house (I'm assuming we will have to cancel it this fall) with 30-50 family and friends
* hugs from family, friends, students, etc.

Bad dreams,anxiety,anxiety attacks. Depression. Loneliness, fear . Not going to restraunts and stores for fun. Not socializing. Not being able to see or get groceries with my sister. Trip to see my other sister she moved to Delaware beach.
