(78,205 posts)The district I live in - suburb of Memphis - has online only option for students. Parents who selected that option are *required* to show up IN PERSON to a LARGE meeting to sign a form, or else the student is kicked out of the online only version & scheduled for in-person.
There is just no excuse...
PS - All students have Ipads, issued by the school.

(34,282 posts)I was admonished here and elsewhere a few years ago for calling traitor a traitor, but maybe someday people will figure out we are not America now, we are fascist nazi land and we have to do things differently, in a DRASTIC way.

Yes, the Constitution. But he has broken so many laws & is literally HANDING THE COUNTRY TO PUTIN!

Be sensible and safe, Florida.
Our thoughts and best wishes go out to all those affected by this storm......

(11,949 posts)I cant recall a single one that followed the track predicted this far out. Most of us look at the 5-7 day forecast and assume that is where Storm is not going to hit.
That said, my memory is not all that good! And everyone should be prepared for the worst.
If you ever move to Hurricane country make sure you buy a home in a neighborhood with underground power. When Charlie hit in 04 we lived in a house built in 1939. We had no power for 13 days. It really, really sucked.
malaise
(294,130 posts)It's early - will it slow down and what other factors are at play in terms of both strength and location. At this speed it will make landfall on Saturday if it's South Florida.

You guys are at much greater risk. If it stays a tropical storm it will be ok. If it gets into the gulf or the Florida straights all bets are off.

(294,130 posts)We'll welcome any rain around it.
GulfCoast66
(11,949 posts)But we depend on tropical systems to keep our sandy ecosystem hydrated. Our Summer Thunderstorm often are not enough. Most of us see depressions and TS as blessings that will insure we have full lakes during our 6 month dry period. Even a Cat 1 brings needed rain. We have no large, deep lakes and our forest dry out really fast without rain.
The big ones? That a different kettle of fish. We went over 30 years between Donna and Andrew. Then another 12 before the horrible 04. Now we are in an active period like the 40s and 50s. But with 10x the population.
