Man arrested on suspicion of setting fire to Democratic Party headquarters in Phoenix, police say

Police have arrested a man in connection with a fire set at the Democratic Party Headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona, last week.

Officials announced on Wednesday that they had arrested 29-year-old Matthew Egler on arson charges that morning.

Authorities allege that Mr Egler set fire to the Democratic party headquarters in Downtown Phoenix after midnight on Friday 24 July. The blaze that was set caused “substantial damage to the building”, according to police.

In a press release, Phoenix Police Department attached a video of the crime taking place. The footage shows flames erupt from the building as a person walks away from the scene and gets into a parked car.

Social media history shows Egler has made several delusional comments while representing the "council," including in April that he got Ivanka Trump pregnant.

Egler referred to his "love" for Ivanka in a video shared on social media, and in the same video confesses that he "took out a building." He added that he and Trump's daughter were "married in secret by the governor of New York," claiming he wasn't getting "responses from the senate" and that he was thrown out of the Supreme Court building on an apparent visit to Washington D.C.

The phone at the party HQ had a busy signal on Wednesday.

Rumors of "domestic terrorism" had spread over social media in the wake of the firebombing. The day of the explosion, Maricopa County Supervisor Bill Gates was among those airing his thoughts publicly about the possibilities.

"Very disturbing that fire @MaricopaDems HQ was arson. To deliberately set a fire is criminal; to deliberately set a fire to make a political statement is terrorism. We must do better."

I hope he enjoys his jail time. He's got some mental issues, that's for sure.
