It was a bit off but enough discourse about it probably made him feel obliged to ask. And it was something being asked in interviews and that needs to change. He gets some of his ideas from us voicing possible atrocities.

The Supreme Court would be under great pressure to take up the case quickly and Roberts has shown he isn't going to go along with the most extreme drumpf craziness. The asshat may have his cult but the top repubs won't be sorry to see him go either - they are spineless but they have let many know behind closed doors what a disaster he is. If we have a Dem win in the Senate and a win, especially a big win by Biden, all drumpf's posturing isn't going to mean anything.

If enough states fail to send electors that Biden can't win 270 electoral votes... It heads to the House where Trump likely "wins" another term.

Article Two of the United States Constitution says
Congress sets a national Election Day.

The 20th Amendment also provides that “the terms of the President and the Vice President shall end at noon on the 20th day of January.” So whatever illegal shenanigans Trump might be planning to make himself president for life, his term as president would still expire as scheduled.

Imagine that you are the Governor of CA.

You control your state’s elections. The President can’t stop you, so you will hold your election, no matter what the lunatic in the White House says. You will certify your electoral votes, and they will then vote in the electoral college (for Biden, presumably).

Now, imagine that you are the Governor of TX. Your party leader, the lunatic in the White House, has told you that you should not hold an election. He has no power to stop you from holding an election, but, for whatever reason, that’s clearly what he wants. For your part, you know that your state will have NO SAY in selecting the next President if you don’t hold an election. Even worse, your state will have NO MEMBERS in the House of Representatives if you don’t hold an election. You’ll also lose one Senate seat. What will you do? You will hold an election, no matter what the lunatic in the White House says.

The idea that there will be no November 2020 election is absurd. The election will happen. Nobody has the power to stop it. Our Constitution actually works fairly well.

... things he didn’t have the authority or legal right to do. He will try. I’m not sure why some simply refuse to allow for that possibility.

If the polls hold, what does he have to lose? If nothing else, the last 4 years have shown us that his brain works differently from a normal person’s brain. He addresses problems with the singular concept of self preservation and aggrandizement.

“I’m not going to win the election? Ok, find a way to not have the election. I’m the president. I should be able to do that”. It doesn’t matter to him if it’s authorized or legal. That is the easiest solution to his upcoming problem, and when nothing else works it is what he will try to do.

They’re controlled by the States. There’s nothing that Trump can do to stop or reschedule them.

... really the biggest problem. It’s the Republican Party, and it controls quite a few of those states.

Look. I understand that it’s beyond comprehension that he would try to engineer something like this. But if it could benefit him in any way to douse the election with gasoline and set it on fire, he will do it.

I suspect that he thinks that it won’t matter if the voters object to whatever he does if he can remove them from the process, right? Seizing power illegally by definition means that you don’t care if it’s legal. But if you successfully seize it, well, you have it. That’s how his brain works.

I’ve said before that I hope I’m wrong about this. I would be happy to eat crow as long as you let me wash it down with a little whiskey. But I’ve watched in amazement at all he has done these last few years, and frankly I think his trying to stop or postpone the elections should surprise exactly no one.

I’m quickly running out of epithets and sentences to describe my anger. I don’t care if he can or can’t delay the election, the fact that he would have the temerity to say so it’s making me sick to my stomach.

If a state decides they do not want to hold an election during a pandemic, they are within their constitutional rights to do so.

At that point, a state legislature chooses the slate of electors to represent their EV’s.
