This is NOT the next step in imposing a dictatorship. This is Trump free-associating as he does endlessly, and generating buzz which makes him the center of attention. He won't be delaying or canceling the election because he can't.

(11,884 posts)When he knows he can't, trying to instill fear for distraction. He's telling children and teachers they have to return to school , and Governors have to reopen businesses , now claiming he can and wants to do this, lol. He's undermined his own message.

(38,601 posts)Can the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election Be Postponed?
Snip but I kind of mean the whole thing
Another wrinkle: If a national election is postponed beyond a certain point, there won't be a House, either. (All Representatives, remember, have to be elected every two years. No election, no House.) In that case, it falls to the Senate to pick the president because the Senate is a "continuing body;" two-thirds of its members are always sitting, with staggered elections only every six years. If none of that works, the selection of the president reverts to the rules of succession: the Speaker of the House (if there is one) will act as president and, if not him (or her), the Senate's President pro tempore assumes the acting gig. This has never happened.

(58,598 posts)He just spouts crap and sees how "popular" it is.
I remember his rallies. I didn't watch many of them, but it goes like this:
1. He'll spout some off the wall bullshit and judge crowd response.
2. He'll repeat it, usually several times. If the crowd response increases, he'll incorporate it into his stump speech.
3. He'll start making ads, showing him saying bullshit and showing the crowd response.
4. Lather, rinse, repeat. He's doing the same shit on Twitter.
It's all about image and marketing to him.

That's where I think the real problem will lie.

(4,454 posts)It is part of a multi-part effort to destroy/discredit the elections. Among the things he wiil do/is doing:
1) Cripple the Postal Service and its ability to handle First Class mail (ballots)
2) Send in his Gestapo to "protect" cites from violence his own supporters will foment. This will be expanded to protecting polling places with police, military, paramilitary, and armed Trumpers.
3) Sue, sue, sue, sue. Get to the SCOTUS, home of Bush v. Gore.
4) Massive disinformation campaign by Putin and his Russian trolls.
5) Force children back to public school, spread the pandemic, more excuse to "postpone the election" due to an "unprecedented national emergency"
6) Use any other emergency (hurricanes, fire, floods, etc) as MORE justification to postpone the election.
7) In states he controls, eliminate/curtail early voting, close voting precincts in Democratic strongholds.
8) Contest everything, lie, cheat, steal. No lie is too big, or too outrageous.
9) Declare any efforts to stop him a "coup" and issue a call via Twitter for all of his heavily armed believers to "protect" him and the country.
10) The GOP will back him in this, as this is how they stay in power. they know that if they fail, jail awaits.
Oh, and one more:
11) Unleash Barr. Begin investigating every Demo leader and candidate. Accuse them of massive collusion with Russia/China/Lichtenstein/The Underpants Gnomes. Arrest people on bogus charges.

Has he complied to subpoenas?
Did he just give the Supreme Court the middle finger?
Has the republic party backed every single play he has made?
