A group of Republicans is urging Christians and Republicans to not re-elect Trump in the 2020 presidential election.
According to the Pew Research Center survey in July, White evangelical approval of Trump has slipped, but 8 in 10 say they would still vote for him.
The recent release ad, entitled Trump is Using Us, features six Republican voters who talk about how Trump uses and manipulates Christians.
In the minute-long video posted on the Republican Voters Against Trump YouTube channel, the group explains that the president doesnt reflect Christianity or values based on his words and actions.
One major highlight of the video was the comments Trump made following a violent white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017. At the time, he said there were very fine people on both sides when talking about protesters and rally-goers.
They also brought up Trump retweeting a man shouting white power! on his Twitter page.

(82,849 posts)Hopefully, hearing it from members of their own tribe, more evangelicals will take a hard look at what they've become. Is "winning" worth the price of your soul? I've heard from a lot of evangelicals that nothing is more important to them than their souls. In return, they've gotten a bowl of pottage. Maybe these folks can start the Esau Project or something.

(14,854 posts)The Evangelicals have been using and manipulating the Republican Party for decades, to get what they want, which is primarily the legal oppression of women, LGBT people, and non-Christians. They're hardly the innocent party in this.

(25 posts)I like to use "Trump insults my intelligence". Of course their response is "crickets....". Sometimes I even give examples of 45 insulting my intelligence (there are so many) and they reply with "more crickets....". Eventually they change the subject. Hopefully I've given them something to think about 🤔.

(14,854 posts)Some of those Christian leaders know Trump personally, so they obviously know a lot more about his faith than I do. I'm certainly not in any position to argue with them. Thousands of Christian churches are preaching that he's God's own hand-picked president, put in office to implement God's will, and that support for him is essentially a tenet of their Christian faith. I'm not in any position to argue with that, either. It wouldn't be out of character for God to choose someone like Trump. The Bible is stuffed with stories about men who did much worse things than Trump has ever dreamed of doing, whom God put into positions of great power, and showered with His favor and His blessings.

(37,156 posts)Some of those leaders believe it because they want to believe it, and others see him as too good an opportunity to push their agenda to pass up, so they just declare him so, with the usual excuses for his faltering.

(10,500 posts)First, they got to declare that their hatefulness was validated. They got to spew venom at our fine former first lady and declare themselves proven right, under the mantra that history is written by the winners. Ironically enough, it was actually Comey who got that for them, not Trump. But voting for Trump is what made it happen.
Second, they got the judges they want.
I assure you...these people have no regrets.

Finally, the non-evangelical side has found its voice. They need to be isolated and shouted down.
