Republicans claim superiority regarding the national economy. How so?
They have to recognize our economy is substantially dependent upon consumerism. IOW, consumers buying goods and services. (We don't have agriculture and/or manufacturing anymore as a foundation for our economy.)
1. People (Democrats AND Republicans) aren't working. No salary and/or wages. No money. And no credit.
2. No money to buy goods and services.
3. Businesses contract initially and many go out of business.
4. Because the Senate (controlled by Republicans) won't give a needed transfusion of money, not so much to bring economic relief to households, but to buttress the economy during a true crisis.
5. And that's why Trump and the Republicans are pushing healthy people to go back to work, to risk their lives, their families' lives. That's their idea how to "save the economy."
And hey, about those businesses . . . . bankruptcies are opportunities for venture capitalists. Win/Win!

(3,303 posts)the pearl clutching from some republicons stating folks make more money sitting at home as opposed to working. "Employers are begging for their workers back!"
This a a LIE!
If you are offered work and REFUSE work, you are not eligible for unemployment.
The rub is making a difficult choice, possibility of getting ill? Or working? We will be treading water unless we have a NATIONAL plan in place.

(46,030 posts)I referenced both Democrats and Republican victims of republican intransigence in the Senate for not making unemployment benefits available to everyone, regardless of party.
I am agreeing with you about the House taking action in May.
