J.J. Redick: 'I don't think anybody in the NBA cares if President Trump watches basketball'

(Snip)

Pelicans sharpshooter J.J. Redick, a white player who is wearing the social justice message “Say Their Names” on the back of his jersey, has long been an ally of his Black teammates and has voiced his disdain for the injustices people of color face in America, had this response to Trump’s warning.

“First of all, I don’t think anybody in the NBA cares if President Trump watches basketball. I couldn’t care less,” Redick told Yahoo Sports on Thursday night after a 106-104 loss to the Jazz. “As far as his base, I think regardless of the specificity of tweeting about the NBA, every tweet of his is meant to divide, every tweet is meant to incite, every tweet is meant to embolden his base. So [last week] was no different.”

The NBA has been criticized by the president and by elected officials and fans for allowing players to inject “politics” into a sphere intended for entertainment. Players would argue these issues are not politics; they’re a matter of human rights — inequalities that they’ve experienced and that have gone unresolved for hundreds of years.

“Look, we want people to enjoy the NBA and we love our fans, but I think there has to be some level of acceptance and acknowledgement in what our league is saying, what our league is doing and what is happening across this country,” Redick told Yahoo Sports. “And the people who are unwilling to acknowledge that, maybe they shouldn’t be fans.”

Chinese state TV maintains blackout of NBA games as season resumes

China’s state broadcaster CCTV maintained its blackout of NBA games as the American basketball league resumed on Friday, extending a freedom-of-speech stand-off that stretches back more than nine months.

Although Chinese internet giant Tencent streamed the NBA’s return from a four-month coronavirus shutdown, the world’s most popular basketball competition remained inaccessible to China’s TV audiences.

CCTV suspended all broadcasts of NBA matches in October after a Houston Rockets executive tweeted in support of Hong Kong pro-democracy protests, unleashing a firestorm of criticism in China.

The NBA commands a huge following in China – its biggest and most lucrative market outside of the US – and the subsequent fall-out has cost the league more than $300m in revenue.

I couldn’t stand him at Duke. I hate Duke basketball. I thought he’d flame out in the big leagues but he’s found his game and had quite a career. Good for him.

trump stated that "any time I witness a player kneeling during the National Anthem, a sign of great disrespect for our Country and our Flag" and that is a line of bs coming from this yellow, draft dodging coward. He received his draft notice and he didn't request a deferment, because a deferment states that as soon as his formal education is completed, that he WILL go into the armed forces if still needed, oh, no, what trump did was go for the "4F" classification, this is where he is found, UNFIT for military duty due to some medical reason, in his case, he went to a tenant doctor of his dad and obtained a phony medical report that he had "foot problems' and with that report, he was able to obtain his 4F classification. Look, I am a US Marine, I am also a Vietnam veteran and my brothers are all US Marines, retired and one that is a 100% disabled Vietnam veteran and let me say this, there were many, many Marines that did have foot issues but that did not stop them from serving their nation and their country. So for this yellow, coward to come out and state this, this just shows one more area, in which donald trump is nothing but a hypocrite. The sad thing is that these guys that call themselves "patriots", they don't even want to acknowledge that trump is a coward, they excuse this away and to me, this makes THEM, exactly what trump is, YELLOW COWARDS and certainly, none of these guys, would I want with me, when facing ANY enemy because they are cut from the same cloth as donald trump, the cloth of cowards.

Even a dumb jock (Redick is not a dumb jock) has figured out Trump's modus operandi: "Every tweet of his is meant to divide, every tweet is meant to incite, every tweet is meant to embolden his base." The media don't have to analyze Trump's tweets for hidden meanings or deep subtleties. Redick has it right: Division, incitement, and encouraging his lizard-brain base. That's it. If a tweet doesn't fit one particular category, it will fit one of the other two.

Just say that.
