Election results may be delayed -- but not because of fraud

By Associated Press -July 31, 2020 9:50 AM

State election officials in some key battleground states have warned that it might take days to count the votes.

A shift to mail voting is increasing the chances that Americans will not know the winner of November's presidential race on election night. But that doesn't mean the results will be flawed or fraudulent, as Donald Trump suggested on Thursday.

Trump, seeking to undermine in advance the results of an election he could lose, demanded that the winner of the Nov. 3 contest be known that night.

"I don't want to be waiting around for weeks and months and literally, potentially if you really did it right, years, because you'll never know," Trump told reporters.

Trump has repeatedly raised unsubstantiated fears of fraud involving mail-in voting, which is expected to be more widely used in the November election out of concern for safety given the COVID-19 pandemic. On Thursday, as national and battleground state polls show Trump in political peril in his race against Democrat Joe Biden, he went even further, floating the idea of delaying the election until it could be conducted in person.

on Jan. 20, the Speaker of the House becomes President, at least until the vote count is resolved.

This is an issue I am not gonna worry about. Trump is throwing up a lot of smoke and bluster, as usual, trying to bluff his way out of a fair election. It's what he does. I'm comforted in knowing how panicked he sounds.

Either our Party has enough skill and wisdom to deal with all this, or it doesn't. We can't afford to be nice guys this time around, that's what lost Gore's election, when all the Republican bully boys screwed the re-count process.

Now we know those tactics are a part of Repub. offense, we should be ready to address that this time around.
