Football Season

Well, here we are almost August and all levels of football are gearing up to start the season. My question is should there be a football season this fall given COVID-19 virus? I mean, it is not like the virus is going away anytime soon.

I guess they will go ahead and run the experiment. We shall see how many players, coaches, other team members and the officiating crews do as they push forward.

IMHO, there should not be a football season this year.

I am aware that the big three pro sports are either starting up now or will be very soon. We also shall see how their experiments play out.

It does seem like too many have brain freezes and either don't fully understand about this virus, its spread and the lack of immunity or they simply do not care.

The virus isn't going away even with a vaccine. The best we can hope for is that sufficient numbers of humans get a working vaccine and prevent mass infections to continue to spread.

I'd have to agree that the season should not be played this year. There's a lot of money on the line at all levels of football, and because of this, they'll try their best to pull it off. In the end, I think the season gets cancelled or severely shortened. People's health is way more important than people's entertainment.

Some folks would like there to be no football (and sports in general) in a normal year so their opinion is unchanged. I happen to like football a lot and am not offended like some here are that they are trying to play. That said, I don’t think it’s going to work.

will happen and I think the NFL will not be there either.

As per teams in "a bubble" they too are problematic.

We went from 0 to 1 million cases in about 100 days

From 1 to 2 million in 45 days

From 2 to 3 million in 25 days

And from 3 to 4 million in 15 days.

and the NFL is kidding themselves.

MLB will be closing in about ten more days, I figure based on more outbreaks.

They will try but there won't be any team sports for 2020 or Spring 2021 as of now.

6. Even a well-run NFL would be fighting an uphill battle this year.

And to state the obvious, the NFL is far from well run right now. In fact, its current leadership may be the worst in all of sports, given their uncanny ability to screw up every challenge that's come their way over the last 15 years.

I'd say it's 50/50 whether they make it to week one, with the chances of finishing the season approaching zero.
