Trump standing by Pentagon nominee under fire for Islamophobic tweets

President Donald Trump still supports retired Brig. Gen. Anthony Tata, his nominee for the Pentagon's top policy job, despite lawmakers abruptly canceling his confirmation hearing Thursday amid "serious questions" about his fitness for the post, including tweets calling former President Barack Obama a "terrorist leader."

Press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, in response to questions from a reporter at a White House briefing on Friday, said "The president still supports General Tata."

When pressed on whether the White House is considering installing Tata in a different position in the Pentagon in an acting role, McEnany declined to answer.

"I have no personnel announcements other than to say that the president still supports him," she said.
