You can't make this up. Bad enough to go after your opponent's kids, but the dog? Joni doesn't want to be bothered about Trump threatening to postpone the election, but her opponent's dog is comment worthy?

The Iowa senate race between incumbent Republican Senator Joni Ernst and Democratic challenger Theresa Greenfield has gotten seriously bitchy. We mean that quite literally. Its not a battle over policy or the poll numbers that have started to favor Greenfield that have seen things get off the leash. No, Ernst drew fire on social media today because she aimed her biting remarks at Greenfields
dog?
Yes, Ernst threw the Twittersphere a real bone when comments caught their attention where she derided Greenfield for hiding in her basement taking selfies with her dog, Ringo. Heres the audio complete with some dog whistles about leadership.
It seems that Ernst really barked up the wrong tree with these comments, because Ringo began trending in Iowa, then nationally, along with #IStandWithRingo, bringing more attention to this very close race.

(58,785 posts)Wish she had attacked Ringo, though. Her voters are actively and/or passively supporting elder "cleansing," i.e., genocide, but they'd object to her badmouthing a sweetie like him.

(35,701 posts)In a nationally broadcast speech, the president said: These Republican leaders have not been content with attacks on me, or my wife, or on my sons. No, not content with that, they now include my little dog, Fala."
Well, of course, I dont resent attacks, and my family doesnt resent attacks but Fala does resent them. You know, Fala is Scotch, and being a Scottie, as soon as he learned that the Republican fiction writers, in Congress and out, had concocted a story that I had left him behind on the Aleutian Islands and had sent a destroyer back to find him at a cost to the taxpayers of 2 or 3 or 8 or $20 million his Scotch soul was furious. He has not been the same dog since."
I am accustomed to hearing malicious falsehoods about myself such as that old, worm-eaten chestnut that I have represented myself as indispensable. But I think I have a right to resent [and] object to libelous statements about my dog.

(12,447 posts)It was always a truism in the magazine industry that if you had a general-interest magazine and wanted to see boosted sales for an issue you put a dog on the cover. IIRC, National Lampoon's biggest selling issue ever had a dog on it's cover with a gun pointing to it and the headline read something like "Buy this issue or we shoot the dog." And in publishing, the guaranteed bestsellers were always books on diets, medicine, Lincoln and, of course, dogs, so one wag quipped that the ultimate bestseller would be called "Lincoln's Doctor's Dog's Diet."

Of course Ernst hates dogs, along with every other sentient being.
